bloke at work has been bringing his dog to work, this morning it was in his car (big jeep, little tiny dog) when I got there at 830, I was only doing a short day today and left at 1230, it was still there, barking at me, full of life
it's black car too, but not such a hot day, about 15°, 3 windows cracked open about an inch

Mention that it's not a good idea as the dog is likely to die a horrible death. Suggest he leaves dog elsewhere during his working hours ie dog day care or a dog walker/sitter.

phew, sensible first response, with no bumming/fire/police involved

Even with the windows a little open it will get too hot in the sun for any prolonged time.

What would I do? I'd pop over to his desk and say he's got about 30 seconds to get that dog cool or the window gets smashed in.

Just email him a few links like this one of other idiots leaving their dogs in cars and assuming they'll be fine:

Id do this too, or confront him and tell him you will if you see it again...

I can't believe people who do this. RSPCA as above. One smashed window and the dog won't die a horrible death and he won't do it again. Small price, what a .

Wow-you lot seem a bit highly strung.. Why not just have a word with the bloke rather than smashing his car or calling the cavalry?

I'm a self employed sparky and I take my dog to work most days. He often has to stay in the van for a couple of hours on his own. I open the window and he's as happy as Larry. He loves coming to work. But, I wouldn't do this in the summer time. Even though he like the sun (he often wonders into the green house in the summer to have a kip).

The op said it was maybe 15 degree's. So not that hot, especially if the car was in the shade. He says the dog was barking, which is hardly the sign of a dog that was about to die of heat exhaustion.

So people take a deep breath and get of your high horse. Maybe a more reasonable solution (and normal), would be to have a chat to the guy about his dog. Then you can casually bring up the dog in the car and see what he has to say about it. This would stop you looking like a crazed maniac that has been out in the sun to long, and stop you getting in trouble with the law for smashing car window's.

Get a grip!
