I have just used the last of the oil I was given by the dealer that sold me my V8V. This oil was Castrol EDGE Sport 10W-60. However I couldn't find the same oil in my local motor store.
I asked about this make of oil and I was recommended the Mobil 1 Motorsport Extended Life 10W-60.

I was shown that both oils had the following:-

MEETS OR EXCEEDS INDUSTRY SPECIFICATIONS
SAE 10W-60, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4, API SM/CF

As both oils have the same standard are they the same and can I use the Mobile 1 oil instead of the one the dealer gave me?
Does anyone else use the Mobil 1 Motorsport Extended Life 10W-60 oil?

I think it will be fine, my dealer supplied a litre of Shell 10w/60 with my new V8V. I used it for topping up, never had any problems.

I think in the UK you can only easily get Shell, Castrol, Lucas or Mobil in that grade.

No problem at all. I use Mobil1 5W-50 since my dealer no longer offered Castrol Edge 10W-60. Mobil1 10W-60 or 5W-50 is also apporved by AML even if it is not explicitly mentioned in the owners manual. Go to www.mobil.co.uk and search for your Vantage....

Ask the Oilman.

(And if nothing else, he will sell you some of the Castrol 10w-60 at a greatly discounted price. I bought 12 litres of the stuff recently for my V8V service. FYI, it's the same Castrol that says 'for M Sport engines').

I too found that Castrol EDGE Sport 10W-60 is no longer obtainable.

They just seem to have dropped the word Sport from the packaging, so I now use Castrol EDGE 10W-60.

My present container came from an online supplier, based in Bournemouth.

This is what you want:

(I seem to recall from the past that Castrol Edge and Castrol Edge Sport were vastly differing performing oils. The 'Sport' was always bit of a misnomer).

Ahem...back on topic .....

OP I'm pretty sure they are interchangeable as the 0/40Mobil 1 recommended for my DB9 can be replaced by castrol edge 0/40 smile
