Aston really are an embarrassement
Discussion
....so if you check my posts and this forum you'll know about the notorious Gaydon bubble issue
Mines got it BAD
The garage say £3000 worth of paint job required. Aston offer a pathetic £250
Today I called aston to discuss it with them. Not one legal person is in attendance and three calls later they're still trying to find someone from legal who. knows about my legal claim and can discuss this
What a joke company. Remind me to NEVER buy an Aston again.
I love my DB9. I HATE ASTON!
Cummon everyone join me in a class action suit. Or at least bombard Aston head office with YOUR complaints re the Gaydon bubble cars.

Say 1000 cars have bubbles and £3k each to fix. With a bulk discount / trade cost its probably £2m total for AM to rectify issue, make sure there are no scabby cars out there and prove they will stand by their product. I don't see why they wouldn't just sort the problem and turn it into a positive marketing message.
Not sure who should be approached but I'd have thought a sensible discussion with people at the right level (ie there new investors) would be better than a legal action. Any LPs on this forum with the right connections?

Use money claim on line, state the product is defective and you are claiming the cost form them.
Court hearings are public.
I can pretty much gtee you will get alot more than £250.
Volvo Penta have the same issue with a brand of outdrive. Acknowledged fault. On Forums, issues money claim and then when asked what happened just so all fine ( ie out of court and promise not to say anything).
You have tried to deal with it. Got nowhere. If you issue a money claim today they will get the summons on Monday ( then we will ask you how you got on and you will go quiet!)

I have honestly no idea. Possibly not, but even it they do you would probably not hear of it. Agreeing not to publish settlements is the norm.
Also, most seem to be a bit of paint here and there, costs £700, factory funds half (say). However in your case it is £3k of work and a £250 contribution so the stakes are bigger and the response - on the face of it - an unreasonably small contribution.

From a point of view of a Money Claim you just need to show the forum posts on here as proof of a systemic issue. The Volvo Penta issue is DPH steering rams and is not far of the same - lots of forum coverage and the odd bit of help "just because we care" from Volvo. Some people have had a pop and then gone quiet. You can read into that what you will!

People have done it to Volvo Penta, and just like Aston you buy normally not even by a dealer but from a boat builder.
If this is their view then they can enter that as a defence ( all public of course). The small claims track does not typically make a costs award if you loose so there is no down side.
The process is formally informal. It is a £120,000 motor car. At 5 years old it needs £3000 of paint due to a known, since correctly and widely reported defect that the company regularly makes goodwill gestures towards the cost.
I would not like to be the one making the defence of this.
Cost to find out, £80. Upside £3000, downside £80 and 20 minutes to fill in the form.
It will never goto court - unless AM consider they are on 100% solid ground - and they are not ...

Some people took action directly against Vauxhall UK when Cosra camshafts were snapping just of of warranty and Vauxhall did settle before the cases got to court. However they could have played hard-ball and had the cases struck out. Aston have no legal liability - that rests with the garage who sold the car.
There's a case on here of a guy who sued Land Rover and won by default - but they still had the case struck out afterwards as they said it was nothing to with them.
I know your frustrated feeling, I have experienced it myself trying to facilitate clearly defective parts changed under warranty, but instead of arguing with owner, they argue with me... I haven't lost a battle yet.
I get them to answer really simple questions which answers can't be escaped from to say problem covered by warranty or not.
Provided the anti corrosion service history checks are quibble free, corrosion is covered under warranty if generates from inside to out, and not covered outside to in (ie stone chip). Simple, if bubbling is under paint which is not missing or chipped, the corrosion is inside to out. If that status is agreed warranty covers rectification. If not, why not!
The main issue here is that the problem is widespread and has cost implications, but so does the loss of customer goodwill..!

You'd 'get Chips Away' or some other specialist to undercut the 3k by miles would be my guess . I got two door handles and a mirror properly redone - including taking the door linings off etc for 600 pounds .Aston practice seems to be to double the cost and then ask you to pay 50 per cent - net cost to them zero. So be careful even if they improve the offer.

My '05 DB9 is suffering slightly from this. Out of warranty. Around the rear edge of driver side wing strakes, definitely no paint off and bubbling from underneath. Also slightly around the driver door handle. I fear it will only get worse
So, corrosion is inside to out, car within 10 year anti corrosion warranty - how have they gone down on paper as wriggling out of claim?outofstepuk said:
£3k sounds like a lot of bubbling! What year is yours?
My car is also a 2007 (2008 MY) V8 Vantage Roadster, 16,000 miles 1 previous ownerI got an estimate from an AM approved repairer (as requested from AM)
To remove both doors etc, fix bubbles on both doors, paint both doors
Blend paint into front and rear of newly painted doors
ie paint both full sides of the car
Labour at circa £50/hr + VAT
Paint & Sundries £500 + VAT
etc, etc.
Replace corroded exterior trim parts etc
Thats how you get to £3K easily
Is it a coincidence that circa 2006/2007 cars are the worst, when Aston production was at its peak?
IIRC threads On here have claimed AM say the bubbling is not corrosion and so is not covered by the anti corrosion warranty?
Quick check from wiki ( yes I'm ow but it's a start) Corrosion is the gradual destruction of materials, usually metals, by chemical reaction with its environment. In the most common use of the word, this means electrochemical oxidation of metals in reaction with an oxidant such as oxygen.
If the anti corrosion warranty has been maintained and complied with then it sounds like a contractual issue to me and AM are trying to wriggle out of it. You may get a free half hour of advice from a suitable solicitor expert ( I did with an unrelated contract matter, and I subsequently went to legal and won on the strength of it).
Suggest you check this side out, then consider which way to pursue it as the thread above on claiming money or direct to the small claims court if the advice supports it. I agree that AM are treading a dangerous route - the reputational damage of body corrosion with Mercedes a few years ago was significant and still haunts them.

As the poster above mentioned, Mercedes had trouble with this for years and that tended to be corrosion on the outside of panels, under the paint. MB said the corrosion warranty only applied if the panel rusted through from inside to outside. The repairs Mercedes did on surface corrosion were under goodwill, but it often seemed random as to whether they would accept it or not.yeti said:
Nice! I like your style, makes the most sense
I just follow the lead of these guys, if they can battle Jeff Vader into submission by being simpletons, there is hope for us all http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv5iEK-IEzw
