My wife and I have come to the sad decision that we need to rehome our 2 Indian runner ducks Hinge and Bracket. We bought them last July having been told they were females although they were young at that stage the vendor sells plenty of them and seemed certain of their sex. A few months ago I noticed they were pestering our 3 chickens, this got the point where they would pick on one and start climbing all over her and it is now obvious that they are randy males! We have had to separate them but they spend all day with their necks through the fence leering at the girls (as you do!). The chickens no longer have the roam of the garden and so we have decided to look for a new home for them. They are very entertaining and great fun to watch, they eat chicken layers pellets and are fantastic slug eaters. They will come with their house (converted large dog kennel) and a trug which their water goes in so they can have a splash around. We are in Northampton close to J15 of the M1, if you think you might like them stick a post on here or PM me..........Martin

p.s taking them back is not an option, they would despatch them as most people only want females.

Maybe try Bell Plantation in Towcester if you can't find a home. They sell lots of different poultry and ducks.

Do you have any small holdings or farms with a pond near you that might like them. I'd offer but timing is all wrong for us at the moment

Unfortunately they came from Bell, they have a job selling males so would probably despatch them which is not an option for us..........Martin

Is getting them a lady duck or two an option and keep them from being lusty with the chickens

Do you have a local shop, vets or advertiser you can pop an ad in, or pop an ad in Countrywide Stores in Towcester

Hi Martin, I have to say I'm curious, but feel that they might not be too safe with our two cats around.

They're quite tall upright ducks so don't know whether cats would bother with them.

Cats are no problems with our Runner ducks, we have 3 cats including one who brings back all sorts from the surrounding fields including moles, stoats (vicious buggers) and the obvious Rabbits. When we first got them the cats were curious but as they walk upright I think they see them as more of a threat. If you have a slug problem in your garden they are the answer, they root the things out and eat them by the dozen...........
Here is a picture, Hinge is the dark coloured one, I named them Hinge and Bracket after the two guys that dressed up as women in the 80`s as these two stand upright chattering away to one another just like the comic duo. Imagine the sense of irony when they matured and turned out to be both males banghead

..........Martin

I've asked a friend who has a farm (runs a riding school) to see if they'd like them or knows anyone else that would like them

Keep you posted
