Any one noticed a lack of squirrels lately? MIL mentioned it the other day, I haven't seen one for months.

It was put in a pot, cooked slowly with some red wine, junipers and berries. It was lovely.

The dog and me shared the squirrels. Quite nice meat but not much of it. Tasted nutty smile

Saw quite a few earlier in the year on the odd nice days but they vanished after the poor spring. Haven't seen one in weeks. Dog's getting bored with looking for them and seeing nothing.

We've got a family that uses our feeder, unfortunately, one of the young ones has learned from "Spider-Squidge" how to get at one of the bird feeders, little bar-steward.

glad that you eat what you shoot but when did you shoot it ?
Sacha my female Harris hawk eats what she catches through the season, but the pheasants and duck we share, the season being oct 1st Feb 1st to give the wildlife chance to breed and rear their young smile
I put her up so that she can moult through.

Well, I reckon if I relied on squirrel for my diet I would go hungary. Maybe SC has eaten them all frown

That pic is a few months old. Not sure if they are classed as game or vermin, if vermin you can shoot them anytime. Lovely looking animals though so its a shame that they are quite tasty.

Grey squirrells are classed as vermin and can be shot anytime just the same as say rats. The local pest control guy once told e ts illegal for him to let them go if they have been cought and have to be killed. Red squirrels on the other hand are a very different matter.

I canoed the river Spey last week, saw a few red squirrels. I was quite surprised by the first one we saw as I think it was the first time I've seen one in the wild.

Lovely bird highflyer. Love falconry, wish I had the time to give to the sport. How much do you get out through the season and what game do you take? Do you hunt over ferrets? Really interested in it but working full-time don't think I could give the bird the dedication it needs.
