Any one else's cat taken to catching snakes? Mine brought one back about 9 inches long. I'm guessing a grass snake, green-brown ish, quite thin and missing its tail! Can't post a pic from a tablet.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask for a pic or declare that your cat thought it was a dog and has just brought home a stick!

Grass snakes have quite a distinctive pattern on them. If it was plain green or brown then it is more likely to be a slow worm. They are not actually snakes but are closer related to lizards.

Did it look like this?

My cats bring me critters. Lizards, voles, mice, and snakes. This is a pic I took about 2 years ago next to a2 litre bottle of beer... A few poisonous buggers here as well.

And a colourful lizard.

It was a slow worm frown mine doesn't bring anything as interesting as yours heretic but he does bring back little lizard like or newt the creatures. I'm not sure where they all come from.

One of mine loves the lizards, but he only wants to play with their tails.

Once they drop those he lets them go.

Slow worms are lizards, legless ones.

Is that a slight on their character? Yes, they may like the occasional drink, but who doesn't?

Yes they are Anguidae in the sub group of lizards which is why I said they are not snakes. The main way that differs them from snakes is that a slow worm can shed its tail during an attack.

But you also said they are "closely related to lizards" which is wrong, they are lizards. That's like saying gibbons are closely related to apes.

Anyway, my cat once bought pulled a dead seagull through the catflap, as well as numerous large rats, magpies, moles and everything in between.

Funny this should come up. One of ours has just turned up with a baby grass snake. I don't think it put up much of a fight.
We also had a brown long eared bat a few weeks ago. Gave it to a local bat protection group who fed it and released it just up the road.
