Planning a long route and creating waypoints into Garmin sat
Discussion
Hello
Today we bought a Garmin satnav with Europe maps and we are planning to travel to Germany on Monday. I have gone to RAC route planner and got the route. I would like to create strategically placed waypoints across this long route and insert these points into the Garmin as "favourites" so that during our journey we will only need to select these predefined waypoints.
The problem I am having is that there are long stretches of motorway right after Calais heading east towards Belgium, and I cannot find suitable towns, or villages, or whatever else to programme in as a destination. The best I can see would be to be able to say something like "E40 junction with N369".
Another way if the Garmin allowed it, would be to be able to select the final destination, and then be allowed to enter "pass throughs" so that it would be forced to route us in a particular way.
Anyway if anyone knows of a good way to do this I'd appreciate it muchly.

Does your Garmin support itineraries? If so, then have a look at Tyre - it builds a route (.itn file) based on waypoints which you're directed to pass through on the way to the destination. You simply upload the itn file once it's been built on the PC and choose it in the nav menu.
I use it extensively when doing distances as there are times when I need to follow a particular route rather than just relying on the machine to choose for me.
