Did you ever get 7 seat Vauxhall Fronteras or Isuzu Troopers?
Not off the shelf, but you can buy rear seats/seatbelt kits that go in the rear. Not ideal, but an option.

Could do a lot worse than a LWB 2.8 TD Shogun/Pajero. Granted, they're thirsty, (in fact you might be better off with a 3.0 V6 petrol), but they'll run on veg oil, (The V6 will do LPG but avoid the GDis 'cos they don't), and I can't think on a better all round car.

They're quite good fun too.

Jap import Troopers (Isuzu Bighorn/Honda Horizon) often have 7 seats. Good trucks. But they are trucks, not cars.

Chrysler Voyager, you'll get a 2.5CRD facelift in budget. Just don't expect diesel economy.

'Airbag light on'

Airbag lights are going to be the cause of so many decent cars being scrapped.

But it's only an hours work by BMW - then why have you not had it fixed? - this faulty airbag is always going to be accompanied by the same bullst just the same as faulty air con always "only needs a regas" and Cat D and C cars that are always described as "only minor damage" - of course it was, that's why it's a Cat D. rolleyes

It just puts me off bothering to go see the car, as it is patronising and suggests the seller is dishonest.

It could just be the connector under the seat - that was what was up with my Alfa GTV when I bought it, but the owner didn't make any claims, just said they had no idea why the airbag light was on.

ETA: One previous owner - so that's 2 owners then? - just fk off. smile

My first e39 had 2 trips to the dealer in 12 months for an airbag light coming on due to some cabling issue under the seat - it was told it was fairly common back then (circa 2003), back then it cost something like 70 euros parts and labour

Is there a smiley for a frustrated used car buyer group hug? smile

BTW, I believe there may be small devices you can plug into airbag wiring that will extinguish the light if there is a fault - I have not seen one, and it may get your car through the MOT, but not sure I'd want to be driving myself or my family around in a car with a dodgy airbag system!

Thinking about it, a lot of these bargain motors we are looking at may have airbags that are out of date! OK, so I'm opening up a whole new can with this, but I do believe airbags have a best before date - not sure what to expect from an expired safety device?! eek

I always have a close look at the airbag light, especially after discovering black pen covering an illuminated one in an Alfa 156 a local trader had made a half-arsed attempt to hide.

The tt then accused me of being a time waster.......

Because it might go off when it wasn't supposed to or because, like a TVR or any car without an airbag, in the event of an accident, you smash your face against the wheel?

I remember watching a mythbusters a few years ago and they were testing a car that had of the first airbags, I think it was 40 years old or so....anyway, it worked perfectly.

I know they have a bbd but I doubt I'd be worried enough to do anything about it

More worried about them going off when they shouldn't! In my old W202 Merc there were underseat sensors that detected whether you had a fat git or an ikle kiddy in the passenger seat - a faulty, incorrectly deployed airbag can cause more harm than no airbag in a crash!
