http://www.backwellmotors.co.uk/contact.htm

seems like a bargain but I couldn't see the mileage.

Bought it. 2001 9-5 2.3 lpt

80K, family owned, good FSH (all Saab garages), allegedly garaged from new (and looks like it), non age related plate, the all important tow bar, test until november.

I've not been allowed to drive it yet - the wife loves it however; the stereo is apparently "loud", it's "very very comfy" and also gets a rating of "fast"

All for maximum thread budget.

Is due an oil service and has no evidence of a sump drop so I'll get on to that first. Should upgrade the pcv kit by all accounts as well. Who's good for saab parts does anyone know?
Check out NeoBrothers and Saabits

The service packs you can get on the neo brothers ebay page is what I always buy: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-SAAB-900-9000-9-...

I got lucky alright,
good bits, 1 owner from new, like new inside, good paint, FSSH, HK speakers, memory seats and mirrors with auto dim, rain sensing, self levelling, local indy was pissed off because it is better than his 2010 Aero
bad bits, 200k, scruffy wheels
Top-notch bargain basement work there, that sounds like a lovely car indeed.

Thanks, will bear that in mind. ECP are just round the corner and had oil and filters for todays shennanigans and halfway through the hose kit from partsforsaab arrived - only 2 days since I ordered - Good service as I didn't expect it to arrive until after the weekend. Didn't have time to fit it though.

Had an exciting day under the car dropping the sump to check for sludge today. A little was present, but happily not to much at all. Not the worlds funnest job. I don't think it's going to leak but it was a pig of a job refitting the sump without banging the hylomar sealant on something. If it leaks I'll redo it at my mates house as he has a pit and will probably take the whole front section of exhaust off the car rather than waving it around and banging my head with it. Should make things easier.

It's off to Wales with the wife and child tomorrow for a few days, so should be a reasonable stress test. I've told her to keep an eye on the oil level (for all the good that will do!)

As to the car - the juries still out. Wife loves it but I'm not convinced. It feels a little like a "tank" to drive and I also think the engine is quite rough, although that just maybe because I've been driving a v6 for a few years. Although camrys are not known for their race car agility so I'm still not sure about the tankness.

Time will tell. It is comfy though. smile

not about this one specificzlly but can anyone tell me does it matter between getting turbo / non turbo with these? Much difference? Is it the same engine but turbed and if so is it just mpg that suffers? How slow is the non-turbo?

From memory the non turbos are about 125bhp. Nothing goes wrong. Smallish penalty on mpg for the turbo probably mitigated by fun factor.

I'd probably buy on condition at this end of the market. NA has probably lead a gentler life mind...

Typical subaru engine faults are the only issue at this price... Watch out for excessive knocking from the engine that doesn't stop one the engine I'd warmed, it's either really bad piston slap orbottom end failure.

Had an na for about 30k miles, the only thing that went wrong was the knock sensor, cost £20 from eBay. The only other issue was quite a healthy oil habit due to a leaky head gasket. Great car though, moved well enough and built immensely well.

I'm rather tempted by this, since it's not too far away:

1998 Mazda Xedos 9 auto, 2.5 V6, claimed 66k miles and 11 months MOT for £450 ono. "Needs suspension link on passenger front, still drives fine though" is about as bad as the advert gets.

Cheap motoring is better than drugs!

Look how much some people spend on utterly mundane cars, though, and it's probably them who are on drugs!

Picked up a cheap snotter last night to run about in while my Octavia goes in for much needed suspension work.

2000 "X" reg Escort 1.6 Finesse 5 door. 80,000 miles, taxed and tested until June. Electric front windows, alloys, the aircon even seems to work! Drives well, no untoward noises or nasty rust.

£200. smilesmile
