Check engine light on, too!
There is not a bargepole in the land, nor a stty stick, with which I would deign to touch that.
+1 not even with your spare stty stick

This is what i've been finding as well.. Moved on to looking for a nice t5 volvo or a saab 9 5 aero hot (both in estate form)....still struggling slightly to find something that isn't too far away and worth looking at!
Shame this isn't a better ad really:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-Volvo-V70-SE-2-3-T5...
am I being tight thinking that's a bit steep for one with 6 weeks mot
Seems like he is a tired eBay seller, not helping now though.

£900 for a manual T5 of that vintage (and not much MOT) is about on the money.

Its worth a look if you are local.
I talked on ebay messaes with him last week

His reply:

It will probably need stuff for the MOT (hence the price) but I can't say what it will fail on. You are welcome to come and assess it for yourself.
I bought it last summer to do a specific job - moving a kayak & equipment around the country. I've been driving it to work every day since then because it's much nicer than my other vehicles but I can't justify keeping it any more. The tax and insurance are about to cost me around £500, which is a large part of what it's worth, so I will take it off the road.

It's a bit of a shame that road tax is quite high on the post 2001 V70s, I'm the sort who pays monthly and you're looking at over £300 a year. I think the car in question will need some work, I dont think it'd be much, but I'm not sure they're worth the extra unless you really really want one

For £100 I was tempted as a barge until June, then I saw picture 2....

I can feel a bargain basement XJ beckoning! I've had my ZT for over 2 years now, and whilst the MG has been a fantastic shed, I do rather fancy a change, plus, a friend and I made an XJ pact a few months ago, agreeing that we'd both buy sheddy XJs, long story short, he recently bought a 4.0 X308 XJ for £650, so now I need to get one too; I'm just not looking forward to trying to shift on my MG. I always intended to keep it for a year max, or until terminal bork, but now after over 2 years (got it January 2013) I've gotten quite fond of it. Whilst it needs a few things doing, it's been utterly reliable and a joy to drive. It's just going to be a pain to sell mainly due to the amount of previous owners and the lack of service history.

I spotted this one, seems fairly decent albeit high milage. I really like the interior colour combination, although what's up with the plate? I can't make it out. Looks like either ETH IW or ETH 1W, but both don't bring anything back with a DVLA vehicle enquiry or seem to be a standard format?

It is standard format (from 1980/81). So, in this case, a 'cherished' plate; possibly lived on the Isle of Wight - quite a few xxx1W and xxx10W plates over there.

It does come up as a Jag XJ6 if you enter it on the London congestion charge site.

Short MOT, but 12 main dealer stamps. Worth a punt for the money, Shirley?
Shame about the castors for alloys, but for a bag of sand you can't go wrong ( or can you)

I've posted this in the smoker barge thread too so apologies for the repeat for those of us addicted to both threads...

A very good friend of mine (school mate and best man) is selling his S124. He's a lapsed MB Club member and serial S124 owner - his last one was suspected stolen to order and shipped south. He's now hankering after an S210 though and looking to sell.

Cosmetically, this one isn't concours but at £1.1k it's fly's leg away from bargain budget. I know he's put money into the mechanicals with a long-term view.

Now reduced solidly into thread budget at £950 - he's not had much interest unfortunately but has the S210 incoming and needs to get shot of it.

Ah ok, that's quite interesting. ETH is probably the initials of the previous owner (Dr Hapgood, apparently). Means nothing to me, but potentially worth something? The ones I'm not a fan of are the NI plates which people often seem to use as cheap private plates. It's just a shame it's a 3.2, although at this end of market, I can't afford to be fussy.

Yep, also the usual " needs a really cheap repair but I'll be scrapping it if it's not sold "

Looks lovely, but belts due which is a labour-intensive job. Too nice to run into the ground though so I hope someone buys it and does the work. I wonder if this is late enough to be a post-Project DRIVE(L) one, where they started to re-introduce some quality materials which had previously been cost-cut.

Slightly over enthusiastic advert, but surely you can't go wrong with this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-S70-CD-T-ST-ENGINE...

2.5T, looks in good nick, 12 service stamps, MOT til November, and £699.

Only red flag is the "steering is a bit stiff", could be worth a punt?

At lunch I looked at an R-reg VW Passat 1.8 SE Auto advertised locally - I want a snotter for a short while.

62k Miles - current 82 year old mother of the seller has owned it for 12 years.

Mechanically it seemed sorted, central locking was a bit temperamental and unfortunately she appeared to have been using the bodywork to let her know when she was too close to anything, but nothing too serious. Her son, a nice guy with a mint Mk1 MX5 who works at Jaguar Landrover wanted £325 or near offer for it.

So - tatty, but driving and running well and decent seller, so I should be buying it, but the killer is the insurance - over £700!

Ok, so I can't use my no-claims, but I'm 40 FFS.

P.S. If I can save this is there anything to worry about on these older Passats?
A lot of electrical issues, many to do with leaks. The central locking is a typical one.
Isnt a common one that the drain holes get blocked so water runs over the ECU and cooks it?

Well known for steering rack problems. Not sure on the cost to replace the rack these days though.
