Maybe a silly question for something so bargey, but are those Hondas remotely good to drive? (Yes, I realise that's not exactly the point of a barge.)

I think the answer to that is 'no' from what I've seen in reviews and the like when the Legend was new. Would it put me off buying/driving one? Absolutely not!

I'm the same, definitely wasn't put off! There is an easy way to describe the handling - American! It's has pretty soft suspension and you definitely don't want to be taking a roundabout or sharp turn in it too fast, but the fun is in hitting the pedal in a straight line once you're out of the corner, that's what it excels at. Cruising is so relaxed.

I was playing around with everything today on the way home from the station and in working order are.... heated seats, electric memory seats, heated mirrors, automatic climate control, rear screen demister, electrically adjusting mirrors, Radio (sounds great too!), steering wheel audio controls, powered adjusting steering wheel, cup holder spring out thing, Both sets of remote central locking key fobs.

Not working - rear passenger side window (doesn't close without some manual assistance, so won't be opening that again!) and a couple of buttons don't light up (Steering wheel ones, 2 of the 4 window switches on drivers door, and the Hazard light button), but that's being incredibly picky.

Not tried yet - sunshine roof (just in case it gets stuck open or something!), CD multichanger and Cruise control.

Honestly I'm absolutely over the moon with it, and will be giving it a very thorough clean at the weekend and I'll post some pictures once it's all done. Unfortunately it has been smoked in, so I need to do some work to try and get it to smell a bit more fresh. If anyone has any tips for this please do let me know. I might also get my mate to look at the fuses as well to see if I can get the steering wheel buttons to light up again (I'm assuming they did light up once, I could be wrong I guess?). I'll also put it in for a full service next week. It needs a bit of love and care and that's what I plan to give it. I don't do many miles so I could see myself keeping this for quite a while to be honest.

Overall I would thoroughly recommend it based on my experiences so far.

To get rid of the smokey smell try this.

Cut a potato in half and put each half in a small bowl of water, one somewhere in the front of the car, and one on the rear middle seat. Leave it over night. Next morning, cut a lemon in half and put each half in warm water in bowls in the same positions.

Before I was looking, there were many a bargain barge to be had. You'd see top notch Lexus LS, Audi A8's, the odd honda legend like above, all for sub 1k with full history and lots of proof of love and care.

Now that I want to buy one for myself there's barely anything around! Typical.

I'm keeping a close eye on this thread but it's gone a bit quiet frown

best to buy this time of year, but wait a few weeks. People get strapped for money and people don't want to spend, perfect for ebay auctions and BB cars can be had for 30-40% less than other times of the year.

1999 - Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 Super - £750ono - Isle of Wight

Someone has to buy this, it would just be wrong not to. V6 Alfa Action.

Just don't use it, wait until it becomes a classic status in 10 years, profit.

(I can't having had a bad run of sheds and losing a few k, but would if I had the money)

Or drive the ar5e off it until the cambelt snaps/something else breaks. Then park it up.

This is one of my favorite threads on PH so I finally took the plunge myself.

E39 523i SE auto. Moon miles, LPG'd, a couple of war wounds and some lacquer peel, a bit floaty but otherwise drives well, no E39 "shimmy", gearbox is snappy and responsive, long MoT with no advisories.

£495 smile

Cracking bargain, have a look under the hood and work out what LPG filters it has and do them yourself. Mine came to about £22 on my SAAB shed

Ouch.

One I tried shuddered when braking hard from about 50mph. What's that about?
