Turkey or Canaries early October?
Discussion
Managed to get some holiday time earlier than expected so the choice has opened up a bit...
We have been to Turkey 3 times in 4 years and love it, but wondering whether we should try somewhere different. We've always flown to Dalaman and been to Olu Deniz, Icmeler and Kalkan. All good, but overall Kalkan is probably our favourite. Nice as it is though, we'd like to go somewhere different!
We are considering Lanzarote as well, as initially we couldn't go until late October and it would be a bit better for the weather.
Any thoughts? We like reasonably quiet resorts, but with a bit of nightlife occasionally, boat trips, a nice selection of restaurants, walks in the countryside etc. What are prices like roughly in the Canaries compared to Turkey?
Many thanks,
Mike

I went to Gran Canaria in Late October 2012 (1/2 term) ......all I can say is it was bloody cloudy and wet! (and only about 20* to boot!
Not ideal weather really but we may have just been unlucky? There were a few people still around but you really could tell that it was still off-season though.

That was when we originally had planned to go... managed to change time off as I didn't want to pay inflated prices for half term week!
Always the best bet, as I'm tagging along with a big group of my GF's family I couldn't. We are off to Cyprus this year (same time) with the promise of better weather....fingers xed - could also be somewhere else to look?Isn't Turkey a bit volatile at the moment?
I've been to Lanzarote in early October and had a stonking week but then I've been to Mallorca in April and had a stonking week. The weather in the Canaries can be variable and people I know have been rained on.
I've just looked at my past holiday dates and see we had a fantastic week in Mallorca in mid-October (it was clouding over as we left)but equally an October holiday in Javea was half sunny, half torrential rain (villa owners always claim you're "unlucky as it's been really sunny etc").
I've also done Southern Spain in November and had a week of "british summer" weather with occasional showers.
Regrettably, weather is less predictable these days though islands like mallorca tend to have a bettr chance of good weather than the mainland as they have less mountains.
Never been to Turkey though.

Sharm el Sheikh. Went Easter and it was brilliant. Weather fantastic, 30 every day and the locals were the most genuinely happy folk I've seen. We'll be going back October half term enjoyed it so much. Our first time AI and it was excellent. Spirits a bit crap but the beer and wine were fine.

I'd put this down to bad luck. Out of about 15 trips in the last 10 years I've never had a bad week. Even in Decemeber or JanuaryNot ideal weather really but we may have just been unlucky? There were a few people still around but you really could tell that it was still off-season though.
Would have thought October would be 25ish
I went to Altinkum in Turkey in October and found the weather wasn't great. Had a couple of really nice days, couple of days of rain and the rest were cloudy. Altinkum was a small resort, so a lot of stuff was shut, meaning we ended up staying in our resort for the most part.
At that time of year, I'd really recommend Sharm el Sheikh. I've been at various times of the year and weather has been nice at Christmas, through to blazing hot in summer. In October, you'll get nice weather and it's cracking value for money if you can avoid the school holidays.
