.. is some guy in the U.S.

article said:
The National Security Agency has obtained direct access to the systems of Google, Facebook, Apple and other US internet giants, according to a top secret document obtained by the Guardian.

The NSA access is part of a previously undisclosed program called PRISM, which allows them to collect material including search history, the content of emails, file transfers and live chats, the document says.

You think it's only governments who can do this?

Seems to be a right stink being kicked up in the States at the minute about it.

Part of me thinks "fk it I've got nowt to hide, who cares if they know about me and Abby Winters?" but then I think that if they snoop on commercial communications you just know they could be using it to give American companies the upper hand against our companies and that stinks.

The reality is that the vast majority have absolutely nothing to fear. Let's face it, most people are receiving spam, Facebook updates where somebody you barely know posts something inconsequential and nobody gives a rats, an e-mail from e-bay or Amazon about something you don't want, the odd family e-mail and generally absolutely nothing of interest.

Are they going to be targeted? Highly unlikely.

But the person who visits all sort of dodgy people in dodgy countries may. That's probably doing everybody a favour. If it catches criminals then that's great. If it deters people from crime, great.

Britain is watched everywhere by CCTV but as everybody knows it's no big deal. This is no different.

Do you mean since reading 1984 or the actual year... wink

But yes, it is no shock that in the land of the free they do such things. I bet they would be calling it oppressive in other nations...

Scanning might be a more appropriate word.

As said, I can't believe that people don't think this sort of thing goes on. Don't they watch Spooks?
