I can, though it is a wonder they ride motorcycles.

"Too unsafe, exposed to the elements, bugs in my teeth, can't carrying anything on them. No, a car is a better mode of transport and there is no reason why anyone should choose or even think otherwise"

Don't be daft - you can carry loads on a motorbike.

and don't forget that there is a moped and two passengers inside the wardrobe.

From underneath. You'll need to make some sort of trapdoor device and spend a few quid rerouting the mechanical stuff under the car, but so what.

I'm starting to think this idea has legs. Instead of spending a couple of hundred quid on a trailer you could spend tens of thousands on modifying a car to make this roof rack system work.
nono

You'll still need the trailer to either carry your ramp. Or your energy milkshakes to give you the strength to lift a motorbike to head height.

Budget £300 though. £200 to buy the motorcycle trailer then £100 to modify it so that you can make a contraption so you don't need the motorcycle trailer you've just bought.

O/T - Did you get my PM last night?

You reckon you could lift a 120kg bike onto the roof of a car?!
Just the other day me and a mate lifted a 200kg srad onto the back of a flatbed with a full tank of fuel so I cant see a mx bike weighing nigh on half the weight being a problem
Thing is you were on the flatbed, so you had a solid stable platform to work from. Now consier lifting the bike above your head onto the roof of the car. The weight is now much higher and unstable as you're still on the ground and only holdingthebike so it's CoG is above you, hence making it top heavy and wanting to topple. Or if you climb up on the roof, will the owner not mind the roof being bent or buckled from your weight/feet.
Now you have the bike above your heads, how do you now control it when placing it on the roof? The bike is no longer directly above your head so it's exerting it's force at the end of a lever, therefore requiring much more strength to keep it stable.
This comes down to simple, basic mechanics and whilst you can put a bike on a car, it could never be achieved via a commercially available and therefoore tested, proven and certified device or system.

Can you show me the data, or did you just make up the 75kg figure?
Google turned up plenty of data for me, but I'm sure you can do your own legwork. FWIW the maximum permitted roof load is usually stated in the owners manual.

and on my large 4X4 it's 75kg. and thats on a even load over the roof rails. I would not like to stick 2-3 times that on my car roof but if others doe then I look forward to seeing the pics and results

Yeah cars are designed to be able to not crush the occupants in the case of rolling. That doesn't mean it wouldn't bend or generally bugger up your car's roof though!

So, prediction time.

What's the likely showcase for this contraption? OP mentioned Dragon's Den. I'm leaning more towards You've Been Framed. Still, that would be 250 quid towards a Dent Dr to straighten the roof out.

Good idea. For convenience's sake you'd probably want to dig a pit (with steps/ladder) that you could park the car over, to make access easier. What could be simpler?

I am surprised that nobody has yet suggested just doing a simple clean and jerk to get the bike on to the roof. It's only 120kg after all, and we're all powerfully built here, right?

And make sure there's one at every location youmight need to stop at along the way as well as your destination.

That expense continues to pile up. I think a brand new top of the range Merc Sprinter might be a better option hehe

I don't fancy driving/riding behind them when the mammaries face in an upwards direction...
