At the end of my cycle across London this morning and as I was crossing Vauxhall bridge, a red car came up behind me and joined the queue of traffic at the lights. I glanced across and from the back thought it was an Alfa but on second glance realised it was the new F Type.
It was good to see the car in the metal at last but I have to say that I thought it lacked any real road presence. I don't know whether it was the colour that just made it blend in or something else but it had no more immediate impact on me than, say, a Honda S2000.
Of course, I might just be a little biased but, on the basis of what I saw this morning, I don't think the F Type can hold a candle to the Vantage when it comes to road presence.
Anybody else seen many out on the roads?

I was really disappointed with the F-Type when I seen it for the first time in the metal. They were parked up along some Astons as the dealer uses the same showroom. Fit and overall quality of finish not a patch on the Astons
Perhaps I had been fed too much hype on the run up to launch. I really wanted the Jag to blow me away.
Although I am warming to it somewhat, the wifes 1M got more attention in the carpark than the Jag when we went for a look.
and as for the brand new V12V I seen the this morning on the motorway OH YES

I've seen a few on the road as they use a test route near me and I'm a supplier to JLR so have been seeing them for quiet a while.
They do look nice but are over styled with a 430ish front and an alfaish rear. They also sit quiet high for a roadster.
The tech is great but I'd still take a Vantage roadster over it.

And the Honda is a 15 year old design that still looks good!I went to one of the launch events, I have to say when the covers were wiped off I was under whelmed. It reminded me on a BMWZ4. The Z4 is a nice car - my sister has one - but the F type is not a particular looker in my eyes.
It was a nice car - with a miniature boot - its party trick from what i have heard is it drives very well and sounds great. I cant validate either!

An F Type followed me from the M40 to the 'Jaguar Roundabout' at Gaydon, prior to its launch. There was no attempt to overtake. Clearly the (presumably) Jaguar employee wanted to enjoy the Aston Martin exhaust sound, and accepted that an F Type's rightful place is SECOND to Aston Martin. QED.

Can't believe this thread has even been started. A jag is a jag but an Aston is a different league altogether and I'm not just talking about the badge
Like it or not, the top of the range V8 is a rival for the Vantage V8, and the V6 is a rival for a pre-owned Vantage. And one is at the end of its life cycle, the other is brand new with all the toys. Some people think differently to 'us', and by us, I mean those who 'get' what Aston is about.

My point exactly We appreciate everything the brand has to offer!
Edit: I used to think the XK and vantage were comparible but in fact the XK doesn't even come close...

Suk - sorry for starting a thread. I was just surprised at the lack of presence the car had on the road and wondered if others thought the same. Just because we are Aston enthusiasts and owners doesn't stop us appreciating other marques. The F Type went past slowly as is was approaching a queue of cars but there wasn't even a decent exhaust burble to turn my head. That's certainly not true of the many Masers, Ferraris and even 911s that I come across on the daily cycle.
The F Type also seemed much smaller than I had imagined it to be.
Of course I'm sure its a great car to drive even if it does lack presence

Right. The F-Type seems to upset a lot of Aston Owners prompting them to insist and repeat that it is a in a different league, it is only a jag etc.
If it is so clear why there is the need to insist and repeat that so much?
Now I am even more curious to try one (and the Jaguar Racing Day in Dunsfold should be a good opportunity)
I have had a test drive in the 3.0S F Type and all I can say is the road holding is far superior to my N420, I am trying not to like it but as Yeti stated, one model is at the end of its life cycle.
I have been lucky to have had two Astons in the last 4 years if they made an Aston that can hold the road like the F type (it would need adjustable suspension) then I would stay with the brand. I could look at an upgrade by BR but why do Aston not offer something similar as an option?.
I can only hope that before I decide to change Aston bring something out for the Centenary year similar to the N420 but with adjustable suspension.

Rubbish - you are a jag owner Riccardo and you were going to try it anyway. You were just waiting as always for someone like Sukh to post up such a comment. The F-Type seems to upset a lot of Aston Owners prompting them to insist and repeat that it is a in a different league, it is only a jag etc.

The fact that most of your postings are in the Aston forum tells me all I need to know.
For the record, if I were offered a new F type as a companion for the DB9 I would grab it with both hands.

I am afraid it is rubbish what you say about me.The fact that most of your postings are in the Aston forum tells me all I need to know.

You seem to pretend to know me well but obviously you do not (also becaue you seems to judge the people based on the cars they own or the forum they follow more than trying to understand what they say). You are also jumping in annoyingly taking things on a personal level
I am not waiting for anything but I come here to read about Astons (while I often read thread destroyed by stupid discussion and jokes which have nothing to do with Aston between a few) and as said I was surprised by this discussion (and certainly I do not have anything against who opened the thread). There was a thread on the F-Type already full of the same things!
Actually I post much more in other forums and I am not really active here also because if you are not part of the "pack", you are attacked like you have done.
I do not have a Jaguar (as you can see in my update garage) and you are welcome to come to my house and check if you want.
I have always said that my favourite car is the DB9 (just hoping to travel less for work in the future so I can have a reason to buy one)
What do you think I am trying exactly? What I say is that if you are happy with your car you do not need to go around to say the other car, that by some (including important magazine) are considered Aston alternatives, are on a lower league etc while certain comment seems very common here
I guess you obviously think I am jealous because you have an Aston but you should know I am not English. Just learn from Yeti the English are jealous if you have certain cars, maybe when some finally buy those cars they want "revenge" and tends to feel threatened so react as a pack

I haven't got a clue what goes on between your ears as I tend to deal in facts. Simply by reading your posts whenever a Jag is mentioned on this forum you come out with the same disparaging remarks against anyone who shows a bias towards an Aston...On an Aston forum !!! For months you say that this makes you even more determined to try whatever new Jag is about then give no feedback whatsoever.
If you're not happy with the banter that goes on here then you shouldn't feel obligated to hang around just to criticise the views of some owners. Funny how some people come onto this forum and feel at home straight away and receive useful advice from others.
Oh, and I'm not English either.
