I am hoping to change the front doors speakers in my '02 Ford Galaxy as they are a bit weedy, and on the Halfords site in says that they are Component.

Not knowing anything about speakers i read up and it appears to mean that the speakers in the front doors dont have tweeters in them like coaxial ones do as they are situated elsewhere.

I was wondering if i have to put Component in only or are you able to put in coaxials aswell?

Looking online there doesn't appear to be that many Component speakers sold, and some ICE sites don't even have the Component option on there searches.

I wonder if it will make much difference?

you could put coaxials in but would need to disconnect the existing tweeters as the sound would be crap.
components are the way to go for sound quality but you need to be carefull with magnet size and depth, you also need to find a home for the small crossover box that comes with most of them

Components are definatly worth the extra effort. Fitting a set of coaxials down in the footwell will probably worsen the sound quality over the OEM setup as you'll end up firing the high sounds directly into your legs.

Ah ok, so sticking to component is the way to go. I'm a little confused about how the crossover box though.
Would i still need it if i was only replacing the door speakers and not the tweeters?

Some systems have simple crossovers built into the speakers using resistors and capacitors, others have a little box like said you need to tuck away somewhere.
Try looking online for a set of custom fit upgrades for ideas rather than the halfords specials.

if you buy a set of components, it would come with woofers, tweeters and crossovers. you wouldn't replace just the speaker in the door

If you cant find any for the Galaxy have a look at the Sharan, maybe compare them to speakers fitted to smaller VW variants as they may be the same fit. Custom fits shouldnt need any wiring and plug into the existing loom.

With components its best to take off the door panel and measure your existing speakers as they tend to come in set sizes rather than car fitment. Make sure you measure the depth as most components have much bigger magnets, you can look at the speaker specs for the sizes. They are not complicated to fit and the crossovers can usually be fitted on the rear of the door panel, the tweeters may not fit into the existing car location though due to size etc
