An interesting day, so far!
Had the tyres fitted by my local National Tyres, decent job as usual.
Looks like there is something missing....
Ah, that's better!
However, as I took the above shot I noticed a trail of oil drops on the ground where I stopped the car and reversed into the space, and the inner wheel arch was spattered with a light coating of oil.
Knowing it wasn't like that when it had it's tyres fitted I got the car to my garage and took the wheel off to find this.
Taking off the undertrays revealed a very rusty set of oil cooler pipework, which had sprung a bit of a leak.
Good job it happen pretty much outside the house - I am off on holiday in on Saturday, to Scotland from Plymouth!
The oil cooler is off, and I have decided to bypass it until I get back from holiday. I'll put some pics up shortly of the finishedbodge job!

Well, it didn't work. Seemed OK last night, but work and back has revealed that it is still dripping oil at a fair rate.
So, I'm supposed to be driving to Scotland as I type this, and yet I'm sat at home, contemplating how I'm a grand into a car that isn't fulfilling the purpose that I bought it for.
bks.

Oh dear. Unfortunately with bangernomics you win some, you lose some. I remember getting a bit over ambitious when I bought a 1.8 Freelander for £1500. I loved it when it was working, and rather surprisingly it wasn't head gasket failure that took it off the road, it was lots of other things!
Have you managed to fix it and get going?
Have you managed to fix it and get going?
No, it's not fixed yet, and I'm now in Scotland for a week, courtesy of a Pug 206 HDi Estate that I bought unseen for £600!
All it needs is the yellow O-ring on the oil pump - just wasn't able to source one in time for the holiday.
I'll order some on my return, and fitting will be a 10 minute job, and all will be well with the world. I certainly expect cheap cars to give grief from time to time, it was just the timing was unfortunate on this occasion!
The Pug has been more than up to the task so far - probably averaged about 80mph on the motorway, and it's returned just a smidge under 50mpg on the first tank. It does have a couple of endearing little "Character" traits though, like turning the lights off when you indicate!

Car all fixed now, all that hassle for the sake of a couple of these things!
Running rather well now, and seems to be making considerably more than the claimed power output. Can't think why though!
Jobs to do soon might include replacing all the bushes on the rear locating arms, and the main trailing arm bush. The discs are a little lipped as well, so might well end up replacing them over the next few months as well.
First thing will be to MOT it next week, and take things from there!

UPDATE TIME
Following on from Rollcages' original thread, it was on here as SOTW, which caught my attention...
1 train journey down to Plymouth, and I picked up the car...
I did briefly update the SOTW thread, but might as well copy it to here and continue.
4th December 2013
180 mile journey back but worth every mile of it, I am still in amazement of quite good condition it is! Took it to a fellow petrolheaed when I got back and he thought it was circa 70,000.
Pulls like a train aswell, but quiet comfortable and with a fantastic stereo...
I'll try and keep this thread updated with how the shedding goes...

Well, first sheddy disaster has happened. frown
Was all going very well for about 350 miles, and then noticed it seemed to be loosing alarm amount of fluid, closer inspection realized it was petrol! Literally pissing out the centre of the car when the engine runs right next to the exhaust!
Made extra annoying by the fact I put £30 of super go go juice in to fill half the tank, did 15 miles and its down to a quarter of a tank, so quite a considerable leak!
Oh well, 'small blip' and hopefully get it sorted over Xmas...
Oh and made especially annoying further more as first morning with proper frost and had to take VX, with inside of windscreen frozen etc.. Would have loved the heated seats today rolleyes

Update time:
Yep, it litterally was the easiest fix I've ever done.
I think at some stage in its life the car had hit something underneath, which had unluckily just caught the rigid section of fuel hose beneath.... Was about a 1mm hole and had quite a flow when engine on...
Cut out defective section and replaced with fuel hose and many clamps etc.. and good as new...
Last month replaced the Turbo with a like for like second hand item...Fairly easy to do, EVERY bolt came out easy which makes a change!
Also, took the opportunity to drop the sump, to check everything was ok down there and also upgraded the PCV / breather kit to the latest kit...
Apparently the earlier kits (a series of rubber hoses) broke down internally, leading to the rubber ending up in the sump, blokcing the strainer / pick up etc.. leading to disaster..
So, temporarily all seems ok in the world of Saabarge.. The only possible issue being a small bit of condensation in the oil(I hope!) thats giving a semi mayo'y appearanance, but not loosing coolant and no oil in coolant. Its only really been doing max of 7 mile journey recently so hopefully a good run out will get rid of the condensation..
From readind the 9-5's had quite a problem with the head coming loose? which could be simply solved by retorquing the head bolts, a job for the coming weekend...
And to finish the update, a photo.. Just because!!

The original photos of the top of the thread have disapeared...
These were from the previous owners sale but it would look as good as this still if could be bothered to clean; leather, wood, plastics all in amazing condition still!
The mileage? Well I don't have a clue as theres that many numbers on the odomenter but I think its still roughly 225,000 / 230,000 miles perhaps..

update:
Given him a good run out at last, getting good few more miles under its belt and the mayo on dipstick seems to have gone, so can only assume condensation ... yay.
Also fitted a tow bar for up coming duties for Saabarge...
Rear bumper has to come off and fairly simple task, surprisingly every single nut and bolt came off without hastle and went back in easy, even those in the wheel arch which I was expecting to be utterly FUBAR!
Even found couple new cubby holes in the boot, and a completely un-used luggage rack with fixing system....
Fantastic car!

Well, decided I wasn't using it much and put it up for sale.
But, before I did that, took it on a 220 mile trip, then another 200 mile trip and finally a 250 mile trip and it seems to have killed the waterpump.
Awful rattle from auxilary belt area in water pump area. Took aux belt off and rattle stopped which is good, as its not terminal atleast!
Seems like should be a fairly easy fix and cheap - new belt, pulley and pump for £60!
Tbh, for the price I was trying to sell it for / offers I had on it (£650) I'm now half tempted to keep it.
Only reason I wanted to sell its somehow more expensive to insure than my modified VX220

New water pump on, no rattle, all is good in the world of Saab once again.
Pretty sure going to keep it now. Its far to good to let go for £600. Even with the miles on it, I'd say it was 'worth' 1.5k but market price and the high miles dictates otherwise
Either way, hopefully a few more happy Saab miles ahead!
