So there I was driving down the lovely French motorways and the cruise control cuts out. This was after about 3-4 hours driving, quite warm outside 27-30ish. Can't put it back on.

Reverse light appears with the sound and parking sensors going mad. Mirrors also dipped.

On/Off
On/Off
On/Off etc etc continued....

Eventually, the reverse light just stays on constantly whilst I'm still driving forwards on the motorway at 130km/h. Pulled up to the services and a friendly chap tells me my reverse lights have been on for miles rolleyes

This happened constantly through 2.5k miles but intermittently. Did become annoying after a while. Only ever occurred after 2-3 hours of driving. Sat Nav also started playing up with GPS cutting out completely (whilst reverse light was on) and was telling me to take a sharp right on the motorway!

Anybody else had a similar issue before confused

Will definitely be taking it in to get checked out. Never happened before. Maybe something overheating??

Sounds like the micro switch that picks up that you've selected reverse is stuck / dirty / faulty. You could pull the fuse for the sensors to stop it driving you mad until you get it looked at.

Something almost identical happened to me on the JLC trip.
We had been making very good "progress" up through the Jura mountains, when all of a sudden the "R" light started flashing very intermittently and the passenger side mirror dropped..
Needless to say this was a worrying development!
I slowed right down to be sure that nothing seemed amiss, and when I restarted the car it never recurred on the rest of he trip home.
PS definitely not related to heat, as we were driving through banked up snow at the time!!

Defects, I had a few, but then again too few to mention.
but through it all I took the blows and drove the Highways.......

Rather like Sinatra my Vantage days are over just now.

Interesting. I managed to turn off the mirrors dipping as I couldnt see!

Will be interesting to see what it was when I take it in.

Sounds like some kind of module that's gone wrong and is affecting other stuff on the CAN bus.

This happened with my M5 and the satnav thought I was in reverse.

The reverse indicator coming on with sustained high speed driving is a known problem. Mine was fixed at my dealer under warranty. The sensor on the transmission gets overheated and gives a false positive.

Here is a thread about the problem from the AMOC.org forum: http://www.amoc.org/forum/index.php?topic=7704.0
