Off to Spain for a couple of weeks in July and I am looking for some decent restaurants in the Calpe area as I have never been before. Just to be clear, this is Calpe near Alicante. Budget not a priority, a quality eating experience is! Thanks all.

It is lovely - a few PHers have been there and give good reviews of the town.

I spent my honeymoon there in 2000, bought a house and have been back every year since smile

My brother in law has a villa in Calpe and 3 of us are going there for a couple of weeks r&r and we're looking forward to exploring the area as we haven't been to that part of Spain.

Apart from the restaurants - all of which look great btw - is there anything else that is a must do in the area? I know that Mrs T likes her food markets for example. Most of the time we'll be by the pool, in the pool, or on the beach...

Thanks again for your recommendations.

I haven't ventured far from Moraira - usually we only manage a 2 week break or long weekend and therefore we spend most of our time by the pool or around the town.

Our trip in August will be great as we will be there for 4 weeks so will have the time go further afield and explore.

Thanks again. Much appreciated. If we find anything interesting while we're there in July, I'll make a note to update you via this thread.

Will you have a car while you're there? If so then make sure you get out into the mountains, there's loads of amazing driving roads up there and not many people, as per this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Javea has a really nice old town and a great beach. Ditto Altea for the old town bit, and this restaurant near the top of the hill is fantastic http://www.elcastellaltea.com/en/02restaurant.html

Polop and La Nucia are lovely hill towns and Campomanes marina between Calpe and Altea is worth a visit. There's two or three restaurants there but I don't know how good they are.

Also the newish marina area at Denia looked like it should have some decent nightlife, although it was daytime when I called in there a couple of years ago. Also Valencia is great and only an hour's drive away.

Oh, and there's the beach at La Granadella

It's a little distance from you but as a previous poster said Javea is a really lovely town. No really high rise hotels
Brilliant restaurent just outside Javea called Bon Amb. It's not cheap but the taster menu was yummy and sitting in the garden eating as the sum went down was memorable

If you don't mind spending most of the evening at dinner, I can recommend El Caserio just outside Moraira on the Teulada/Benitatchell road. The service tends to be a bit slow, but the food more than makes up for it.
