Paul O'Grady ; for the love of dogs.
Discussion
I love the program and was a bit surprised that O'Grady actually comes across as incredibly down-to-earth, genuine and a true dog/animal lover.
Barely ever manage an episode with shedding a tear or two though as some of the stories are fairly shocking and I'm a big softie when it comes to dogs.
Girlfriend refuses to watch it now after seeing one a few weeks back where a little female whippet/lurcher was just skin and bone and she thought it was utterly horrible and was in floods of tears. Stupid woman went to the loo and missed the happy bit where it showed the, now healthy, dog in France having a whale of a time!
You watch the sad bits knowing that there are usually good endings. Does make me wonder how anyone can go spending £300 on a Shi-poo or a Sprocker or any other stupid over-priced crossbreed when there are some many lovely dogs that really need a good home and second chance at life

it's been a brilliant programme, has probably done Battersea and PoG the power of good. I think he is the perfect person for the programme. As for the poor dogs that come in there, it makes you sad and angry in equal measure - at least on thursday's programme a guy admitted he'd taken on too much and Battersea would be the best option for the dog, as opposed to poor Egg, who was found in a box.
My only gripe is that it appears that the xxx family just rock up and collect a dog - nothing said of the home visits and all the hoops you have to jump through before you can take the beggar home.
We would be fubar'd here...as we don't a fenced in back garden, we'd never pass a home test, so are forces to buy pedigrees, rather that give a needy dog a home (for example, because we don't have a garden, every time the need the loo (apart from last thing at night) I take them for a 15-20 minute walk.
Rant aside, it just shows the dedication of all the people who work and volunteer for Battersea, and I could watch these every week, even if on occasion, my hayfever kicks in and my eyes water a bit!!!

He's with guide dogs tonight Aawwww.
I have great admiration for labs/retrievers for the jobs they are trained to do, but not all can be trained , like the one sitting across from me.
Since having my lab I've sponsored two puppies so far ,for Guide dogs for the blind.

I have raised funds and supported the Battersea Dogs Home long before they added cats to their roll call.
You can imagine how horrified and disgusted I was that when I went to rehome a dog in place of my beloved lux who passed away recently, that I was told firstly by the ‘computer’ and secondly by the ‘team leader’, that I was not suitable to home that one dog I wanted and had selected even on line as of interest..
An initial interview followed by 2 hours of looking, searching and meeting dogs in their ‘rooms’, led me to a list of 2 dogs of interest, of which there was just the one I wanted..
It seems that giving a dog a home with plenty of space and loads of love from a wide family circle is not suitable.. To add to the insult, the 2 staff were hardly experienced in life, let alone for them to call me unsuitable..
I will never again give a penny to this dogs charity, I will never support them at any level and I work with several charities as a volunteer including 2 dog charities for the disabled. The Battersea Dogs Home has been a first port of call for most Londoners when it came to animal rehoming, what a shame that this has been shot down in flames..
Thankfully I am allowed the freedom to buy any dog I feel able to look after and to become part of my life, so rather than give a dog a loving home and care, someone will be making a large profit in selling me the same!
Not all dogs are there because nobody wants them, it seems the staff will often decide who can get which breed, hence they remain for weeks and months and longer..

Why the hell would you join a car forum just to post this rant about Battersea? You can imagine how horrified and disgusted I was that when I went to rehome a dog in place of my beloved lux who passed away recently, that I was told firstly by the ‘computer’ and secondly by the ‘team leader’, that I was not suitable to home that one dog I wanted and had selected even on line as of interest..

Everyone knows there are a lot of checks etc that centres do now before you can take home a dog or cat and in 95% of cases this probably works out well for everyone and ensures they get a suitable, safe home where they won't end up abused and going back to the rescue or streets a month later.

I read in alldognews.com that someone wanted to get a dog but were refused because of the computer saying no.. I checked the story and it seems the battersea dogs home use a computer programme that tells staff if a dog is 'suitable' or not...
In todays programme, a bassett, mr pickles, had been homed twice and returned twice, so much for staff knowing when someone is suitable.. Perhaps the dogs' home should use experience instead of computer programmes and inexperienced staff, for the sake of the dogs!!

Sounds odd.....................My local rehoming centre is Dogs Trust. Computers don't seem to feature. In todays programme, a bassett, mr pickles, had been homed twice and returned twice, so much for staff knowing when someone is suitable..
