Specifically on their 767s down to South America any time recently? There are partnering with Virgin so I will be able to use the old air miles lark with them, does anyone known what their upgrade st is like?

All the 767's are tired. Very tired. I got stuck on one flying to MAN from ATL last year, and it was excruciating.

Even if you manage to upgrade to business, don't expect too much. Still to early to tell how the merger will shake out with award availability on V and vice versa, but I don't expect too many bargains to show up.

I'd rather walk than fly with Delta again.

Delta's Business Elite (on all trans-atlantic routes) is actually pretty good. All of their aircraft have been refitted over the last two years and have quite comfortable lie-flat seats up front - all with aisle access.

Good point - Delta is often an expensive option. I'm traveling MCO to NRT in mid July.
Delta, through ATL or Detroit is thick end of $11k.
United/ANA through Dulles is $5400

I was not fortunate enough to be upgraded on that trip, so yes, excruciating.

I've flown on them a good few times. They are very, very tired. They probably won't have video on demand, rather a couple of movies on a loop, which you have to time right in order to catch the beginning. Utter rubbish, but in economy, I suppose it is just a survival exercise.

Their business and first class will make things a lot nicer, but in actual fact, for what they cost in terms of air miles or cash, they are very poor. I'd be tempted to save my air miles for an upgrade to a decent product. Then again, I guess it depends on how many you have/how long until your next jaunt.

Well it was because Ive got Virgin miles and cards and Delta are allying with Virgin. It looks like Ill have to bite the bullet and fly BA or someone decent and go cattle class rather than paying a cpl of grand to upgrade us both.

In fairness, if the Virgin & Delta trip costs are cheapest, if go with them if you'll be travelling in economy, Virgin are ok, plus you should be knackered enough to get some sleep on the second leg. Ultimately economy is economy, but what I was suggesting is saving your miles perhaps for your next trip. Deltas products vary from aircraft to aircraft, too.

I'm not too up with air miles, but can you transfer them to a OneWorld or Star Alliance membership? Just gives you more options...

Virgin dont fly down there, Delta do. Id be transfering airmiles from Virgin to Delta to upgrade. The whole point is I dont want to fly cattle class! I do between 30-50 flights a yr, air travel not sucking has consequently become a large part of my life. I do have an account with Lufthansa's mob though, but prefer to keep that for European travel.
