My dad will be visiting in July and we plan to stay over London for a night (Saturday). There would be 3 adults (me, missus + dad) plus our 3 children all under 10 with the youngest being 4. We will be meeting up with another family for dinner so location must be fairly Central (Zone 1) with a tube nearby. I have a car but do not fancy driving through weekend London traffic as I am very unfamiliar with the roads. My dad is looking to visit Harrods and also Buckingham Palace (something I have planned for the Sunday morning).

Truth to be told I have never stayed in London except alone on business trips so no idea where to start looking... Budget would be around £500-600 including VAT for the night.

So far I've found Novotel South London which the nearest tube is London Bridge. Should be fairly close by to walk for us according to Google Maps and there should be parking towards rear of hotel.

Second choice would be TravelLodge in Covent Garden but I am not sure after looking at pictures on the website. Hopefully someone with more experience could advise...

Many thanks!

Grange City - across the road from Tower Bridge

You could try Premier Inn on Euston Road. A minute's walk to Kings Cross or Euston so you have Piccadilly Line for Harrods. Holborn and Covent Garden are 10/15 mins walk and rate is i.r.o. 130 quid a night room only.

Thanks for the quick reply! Amazing hotel with rooms which sleeps up to 5 but unfortunately it's all booked for the dates I wanted frown

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately that hotel is booked for the date I wanted too frown Nearest alternative is London Angel Islington...any good? Pretty pricey for a Premier Inn but I guess that's what you pay for in the City!

Stayed once, I'll never return. Whenever I stay around that area I go to Premier Inns at least I know what to expect.

Loads to chose from.

The Hilton in Islington isn't too bad.

However, the Doubletree at London Bridge is very nice (Pepys St)

Shame. I've stayed there before and it was decent enough for what you describe.

If you're happy with Travelodge/ Premier Inn level places (this is PH biggrin), City Road Travelodge is pretty decent as far as they go!

Try their other places, I can recommend St Paul's and Tower Bridge

Thanks for the feedback - not sure why but I just get a bad vibe looking at the pictures. Location however is very central though (Oxford St + Leicester Sq) within walking distance. I'll look at other Premier Inn options then.

Looked at Doubletree but I don't think they have parking spaces? I will have a look at the Hilton in Islington although I doubt I will get 2 double rooms within budget :P

edit : Both Hilton Islington and Doubtree London Bridge has no rooms available... I guess it's because I require 2 double rooms..

The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is great for families. We stay regularly for London weekends. If you book a studio room you get a bedroom and a partitioned off lounge area. The lounge has a sofa bed that is perfect for kids.

It is about 10 mins to Buck Palace and you can walk to Leicester Square in about 15 mins.

eta There is a carpark directly opposite that is £20 for 24 hours. The closest tube is Westminster or Waterloo.

Bah... no rooms available... shame as that really is ideal for us.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong? I select 2 rooms; 1 room with 2 adults 1 children and the other room with 1 adult 2 children.
