Sunday Service July 21: Vauxhall HQ

Tickets still available for this weekend's Sunday Service; grab them whilst you can!

It seems like a long time ago since we hosted a Sunday Service meet, the French-special Friday Service taking the place of our more normal Sunday offering a few weeks ago. But we need wait no more as we are very pleased to announce the next date for your calendar as we return to glorious Luton for another visit to Vauxhall HQ on Sunday July 21.

Heading to Vauxhall means we’ll be seeing old favourites on display from Novas to Cavaliers, VX220s to Royales (what do you mean you’ve never heard of it?). The entire new Vauxhall model range from Cascada to the VXR will be there too, and you may even spot an Australian muscle car or two as well.

Not enough? Well you can also race RC cars, view older classic cars and even shoot a football into a goal that records your kick speed. Of course you can always just relax with some breakfast and look at the 500 PHers cars on display too. To claim your space sign up here.

We’ll be based around their excellent Heritage Centre situated in the shadows of Vauxhall's UK HQ, and the usual supply of breakfast items to provide the sustenance needed for an early start will be on hand.

As per usual, the Sunday Service congregation will gather at 09.00 and will be unceremoniously kicked out at 13.00. Entrance is free, so all you need to worry about is bringing enough cash to buy a spot of breakfast.

Vauxhall HQ can be found at the following address: Griffin House, Osborne Road, Luton. LU1 3YT.

Please note that you will need to pass Griffin House before turning right at the T-junction to enter the Sunday Service car park from Park Street (20mph limit, so be careful). Signposts will guide you from Griffin House, but it is literally around the corner from the main entrance.

Sign up here.

Thanks to Vauxhall for the support.

Maybe my age but that MK1 GTE in white is the best looking hot hatch of all time.

When I was younger I used to earn extra pocket money washing a neighbours Mk1 GTE which looked exactly as the example above. I thought it was the dogs. He subsequently sold it and bought a white Mk2 which impressed with it's digital dash but that's the only thing I recall about it.

Having seen a Mk1 one again (I think his was the last one I ever saw on the road and we're talking about 25 years ago now) it still has a certain appeal. I'm not a fan of Vauxhall at all, but the boxy charm of the Mk1 GTE puts quite high on my list of 80s-cars-designed-with-a-set-square. Alongside pretty much all Lancias, the ur quattro and the Mk1 Golf.

That mk1 (and mk2) GTE look the nuts. Was never really a fan of the mk3 or the GSi although they do look quite good once you remove the hateful alloys.

Glad to see more parking allocation this year but surprised this hasn't been over subscribed already as this was IMO one of the best organised Sunday Services to be held last year.

Here's some pics from the 2012 gathering - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Especially like the crazy concept cars

Looking forward to this... There is another forum gathering at this place a couple of weeks after which I'd planned to go to but the SS trumps it.... If its that good it might even be two Luton trips in a month... Eek!

Just joining others but the Mk1 GTE got the proportions just right. Personally, I think they had Ford 'licked' at that stage.

Fully agree I absolutely love it, I had a silver one in 1988 I was so proud of my extra 200cc over my mates XR3i LOL!
