Hi guys & girls,

I'm trying to make a little motor work which I got at a car boot. It's a Hoover MK 4 motor. 1/4 horse, single phase. It's got 4 poles coming out of it and looks like two windings and some sort of clutch/centrifugal switch. I think this makes it a split phase motor.

The cable which was sticking out of it had 4 wires in it which I guess went to some sort of switch.. What's the way to wire this? Live to one side of both windings and neutral to the other, earth to the case and see what happens?

Cheers.

i couldnt tell you how to wire it but it should have a start winding and a run winding, a google search should show you some diagrams.

Why would you need a capacitor with a dedicated winding? :s

You are correct, I just spotted the switch in the picture. That will teach me not to answer on the Ipad as I am entering the lad of nod.
