Please Recommend a campsite (for tent) in Lake District.

As per title.

Stayed at a nice one a couple of years back (Windermere), would stay there again but like to try new places.
Showers on site and a pub on site or walking distance very preferable.

Caravan & camping club site at Keswick.
Pitch by the lake, plenty of pubs etc very close by.
Sykeside camping park Patterdale, more remote but good walking and a pub at the site.

I've stayed at Burn's Farm, which is a couple of miles outside Keswick centre, a couple of times now and been impressed. Showers etc on-site and lots of great walks/hikes right from the campsite.

Think there's a pub about a mile away - near the stone circle.

That's odd, the uk campsite review says no tents, but I've definately seen tents on the derwenwater site and I always thought the camping and caravan club was originally set up for canvas campers.
Might be worth a telephone call?

Bayesbrown Farm. Only place I ever really consider - went there, loved it, kept going back. It's in the Langdale Valley so you step out of your tent into beautiful scenery. No set pitches, just choose where suits you. And it's pretty well located - 5 minute drive to Ambleside, 10-15 to Windermere but also just down from the A591 so you can hit Keswick direction easily. And the Wainwrights pub does decent food and cider - 5 minutes walk away, as is a decent cafe and village store.

My wife has booked this morning to stay at the Croft at Hawkshead.

We camped there 7 years ago (pre having kids) and found it handy to be close to the village for supplies from the Co-Op and the pubs.

Now my eldest has discovered camping via the Beavers we thought we would give it a go. It is close to Grizedale so we can take our bikes.

Just been here last week, was ideal and very cheap.

good walks to be had and the pub is spot on.

We stayed here two years ago. Its just outside Keswick. The toilets and showers were always warm and clean. There was plenty of space to park next to the tent and the views were amazing you could see Derwent water and right down Bassenwaite lake.

It is about a half hour walk down hill to get to Keswick from the campsite but only about 5 minutes in the car.

One morning whilst having breakfast we did see a spitfire paas over the tent at about 50-100ft and then fly all the way down the valley. Got to watch it for a good minute or so as the views stretched that far.

P.s Booths Supermarket in keswick is amazing . I have never seen another supermarket with so much fresh and nice food. Was excelent for getting picnics from.

I've only ever camped in Ravenglass and it was over 20 years ago, I seem to recall it being nice though.

The Quiet Site, without a shadow of a doubt......stayed there pretty much every year for the past six years; really taken with it after stumbling upon it by accident. Very good facilities and a lovely bar on site. A bit of a schlep from Pooley Bridge but perfect for mountainbiking around Ullswater.

Enjoyed the caravan and camping Keswick site too. Great supermarket a couple of mins walk when we stayed about 3 years ago. Lovely location.

Bar was good, very friendly with a great atmosphere.

I stayed at the Wasdale Head National Trust site

Wasn't the cheapest but was really scenic and good facilities

We got back from our camping trip to the Lakes on Wednesday night, the first time we had camped with the kids, and only the third time we had ever camped.

The site at Hawkshead was in a good location, very handy for nipping into the village for provisions or to the pub.
The amenity block was very good, very clean, individual shower and bath rooms as well as showers in the toilet areas. There was a laundry which cost, but a free microwave and a freezer for ice packs (the site would also lend you ice packs).

The electric hook ups (which we didn't have) looked to have dual water outlets and co ax points, as well as lights which gave a low level of background light without being intrusive when in the tent.

The only negative factor was the proximity of the site to the main road which runs through the village towards Coniston and Ambleside. There was a lot of traffic noise, not cars but bigger vehicles, at a guess delivery vehicles supplying shops/pubs/hotels.

Even though it rained we enjoyed it and cannot wait to go camping again. The kids slept better than they do at home in their own beds!
