Google Nexus 5
Discussion
The battery has never been great but since 5.0 (and 5.1/5.1.1) the battery has been shocking.
For example at 5pm the phone had full charge.
By around 8-8:30pm the phone was on 35% battery and had barely been used. The battery stats show nothing of use! And 360 security didn't highlight anything either!
Phone was reset to factory a few weeks ago to try and cure this issue but hasn't worked.
Getting a bit sick of it now, an iPhone 6 is starting to look more appealing

Have you looked into what's actually using the battery? (GSAM Battery Monitor, Wakelock Detector, Greenify, etc rather than the built-in vague stats.)For example at 5pm the phone had full charge.

PS - When mine starts braining fast, a cache partition wipe usually sorts it out.

My battery is superb. Running latest 5.1.1 with xposed. I then have Hellscore kernel, with a few tweaks from YouTube, Powernap module for xposed, which is similar to the Sony battery saver for the Z3.
My battery lasts all day and I'm left with around 40% when I get in (moderate use)
Off charge at 5am and back home at 4pm
You do need to be rooted for this. I'm not keen on Lollipop, but it's the best it's been since it was launched, looking forward to android M

I use mine a fair bit but I always need a charge at some stage through the day. Currently on 46%, at 1pm, came off charge at 9am on 100%. Not been using it directly this morning but have been tethering to it on wifi. Without a decent in car charger and portable battery I would be stranded almost every day.
Anyone struggling with battery life, i can highly recommend hells-core kernel.
I had frankos on for a few week and didn't notice much difference over stock.
Put hells-core on yesterday, (forgot to wipe dalvik/cache, thought I'd borked it!) charged it up, unplugged at 5pm and it's on 92% now.
Awesome!

Battery usage apps were doing nothing to help identify the issue. The phone then started switching off randomly and rebooting with only a few % battery life.PS - When mine starts braining fast, a cache partition wipe usually sorts it out.

Replaced the battery last night and seem to now have my old nexus back!
Retired mine after 18 months. Had to have it replaced after two months due to a fault where it wouldn't get a signal in many places (warranty), constant signal issues (vodafone), charging socket broke a month ago and I replaced that and finally died when it rebooted a little over a week ago on its own and never came back up. Tried recovery mode and it kept reporting a problem with the cache. Tried putting a known image on it and could get the thing to write. Not very impressed at all and after the slow performance degradation of my original nexus 7 I won't be getting another nexus in a hurry.

Had a minor update a few days ago (no idea what for, was still 5.1.1) and now the torch isn't working. Anyone experience the same?
Just tried mine and the torch is still working. I uninstalled some apps I hardly used too. Much better but not made a change in the battery life. I'll need to test over the next few days.

Apart from the Nexus 6, what's the best replacement at the moment which keeps the stock android feel? Nothing wrong with mine but always like a change now & again
Give it a few more months - October/November will show two new nexuses (nexii?) - one of which is reported to be a Nex5 replacement.https://store.google.com/product/nexus_6
£304 direct from Google for the 32gb model!
Must be a replacement due soon....

If the new 5 incher is made by LG, I'll definitely be buying it. If it uses the Snapdragon 820 SoC then the overheating issues encountered in the 810 will have been eradicated (hopefully) and the manufacturing process will be shifted to 14nm.
Battery life (my biggest gripe at the moment with the current 5) will also improve with Android M on board.
Overall, I'm hopeful and looking forward to it being better as the current 5 can still hold its own in terms of speed and efficiency in everyday use. It'll just be a shinier new play thing.
