After 3 very heavy nights of rain, and for various reasons the car not being indoors it appears that behind and under the drivers seat has got a bit wet. I don’t believe it is the roof leaking, and looking in the foot well and under the mat it seems just a little damp there too. From a glance it looks like it might be dripping in via the clutch pedal. Is this common? Does anyone have any suggestions on the cure? (Other than put it in the garage!) PS. Anyone got a magic solution for drying the carpet? Cheers.

my understanding [ie I have been told by someone who knows much more than me] is that there are 12 holes above the drivers footwell.

This includes, most importantly, the one beneath the sealed hatch in the drivers side wing under the bonnet, which covers the clutch fuild if I recall.

If any of these are not sealed, H2O comes pissing in there.

I caucght mine very quickly, and now been sealed [by someone else].

The one further back sounds roof related, are your door seals ok? Does it then drip down? Have you sealed your hood?

Do you have a leven half-cover [buy one], very useful.

Good luck on the disgnosis.

When mine was damp behind the seat the roof was leaking (around the area with the velcro. If that side area above the velcro is dosed once a year or so with Thomsons Waterseal or Fabsil or equivalent, then no water gets in; leave it too long between retreatment and it leaks in the same place. Can be difficult to see how the water gets from the velcro area to the floor and the carpet flap over the door opening mechanism seems deceptively dry.

They all do that sir! OH

It probable IS the roof leaking, it can ingress via the stitching on the rear screen, so seal the roof anyway!

Also go around the inside of the engine bay and seal every hole in the glass fibre you can find including rivet holes etc. Brake fluid reservoir, name tags rivets.

Check windscreen rubber and all seals etc, etc, etc.

And so the search goes on.

To get it dry? Drive around with the roof off.

As you say, I thought it might be the roof, but it is spotlessly dry. There is no visible sign of water running down the inside of the car from the velcro area, or any other area from the roof. The groves under the floor mat (under the pedals) are a bit damp right through to the area right under the seat and behind where it has obvioulsy collected as this is the dampest area. (I've just been drying it so have had a good look). I've just painted the roof with Fabosil. Would you recommend two coats or would this be over doing it? I now have a full cover, and will be using it when its parked outside.

they DON'T all do that, if you do the things Al suggested
it's hasn't been designed to leak - fix the leak and it will be dry

I can vouch for the cures outlined above. I've been round all the bits I can find to seal, and largely cured the leaks, except ... drivers side, side of transmission tunnel at the bottom. Doesn't seem to be coming from the front, so maybe there is a bolt through the floor (not the seat bolts, its dry there) where water can get in.

Anyone know?

Have your Door seals got two little Dents/Cuts in them along the bottom edge of the Door appature. If this seal has been replaced and not had these little dents put in the water flows around the seal and then over the edge into the Car. The two little dents let the water flow out of the seal and out under the door.

Alledgedly - I spoke to a well respected indie about this and he believe it's an old wives tale and has fitted lots of new seals and never had a leak.
I'm changing mine soon and will try without the pinches and see how it goes, if it still leaks I'll pinch them in.

Yes to the indents in the door seals, but the damp is on the inside of the footwell, not the outside. And it is localised to a patch level with and below my left knee, not right at the front as I would expect if it is coming from under the bonnet.

Check the integrity of the seal around the brake master cylinder and the washer pipe grommets.
I've seen damage to the pipes as well internally caused by the wiper linkage rubbing through or snagging them.

Changed the seal on Mine and it Leaked until I pinched them. Cant Understand why TVR would go to the trouble of doing that when building them if it wasnt for Some reason

To be honest BB me either - but this chap is a God-Like fellow to some around here (I've yet to be convinced).
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt one more time, but at least I can pinch them after fitting.

Ian - do you mean the washer pipe grommets where they emerge near the wipers? Could be that.

Can I take this one step further?

Once the leak has been cured; how the hell do you get rid of the smell of wet Wilton?

Mine's been 'dry' since last Feb but still has a lingering smell of wet dog.

I've found that, that Febreez stuff always freshens up the cabin after those damp days. OH

Silica gel is great for drying things out, if you want about two tons of it, come and pick it up, about 1kg will do though ! I keep some behind the seats and recharge it every now and then, recharge meaning getting it hot!

I`ve just bought a Chimera that has been left out in the rain, unused for about six months. It is soaking wet inside. I unscrewed the courtesey light switch to try and fix the interior light and about a gallon of water poured out of the hole. No wonder it didn`t work!

Good luck mate! At least there won't be any rust. Hood treatment first I think, I used the Fabseal stuff Millets sell for about £12 for a 21/2 litres. Other say Thompsons, both much cheaper than Renovo or Autoglym products.

Have you lost the backend recently? Greasy roads this time of year...
