Been offered a Impreza 2000 STI WRX Turbo Wagon '98 with 100k on the clock in exchange for my current car.

The guy says he gets about 35-40mpg from it? Is that feasible, as every where I look people are in the 20 ranges.

I'll be mostly motorway driving, so what could I really expect from 70mph? Also if I hyper mile behind a lorry/coach or go 50 mph, I don't mind driving like a fanny as I enjoy driving.

Also what sort of value do you reckon it's at? My car is worth about £1300 and he wants to do a straight swap, his has 12 months MOT on it as well.

I know not the right car to save on cash but the AWD will help in the winter months as getting out of my road is like dancing on ice.
Also the burst of power to get out of tight situations will make me feel safer then my Fiesta 1.4tdci, which if I needed to accelerate quick I might as well step out of the car and walk.

Cheers thumbup

They are talking bks.

I'd also find out exactly what the car is.

A "Turbo 2000" is the EU/UK market model, which is a slightly dumbed down version of a JDM WRX, with better standard kit, but less options and variants.

The JDM WRX is as just said the entry level turbo model for the Japanese market. However there was a good degree of options and variations.

The WRX STI is a different car completely and not sold in the UK. This is the 'high' performance version of the Impreza and is actually quite different from a WRX/Turbo 2000. Different engine internals, different turbo, different brakes, different gearbox, different centre diff to name but a few.

While you could get WRX STI Wagons, they are pretty rare and I think only avilalbe for certain model years. Wagons in WRX/Turbo 2000 guise are far more common.

MPG wise - best I've ever got from my UK spec T2000 is 26mpg on superunleaded (pence per mile this is like 23-24mpg on 95RON).

If yo drive very carefully you may see 28-30mpg, but I really wouldn't budget on that mpg level.

Cheers for the response, just put the reg in on an insurance site and brings it up as a Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 4WD, so not a STI WRX.

I've actually just found the car on eBay that he offered me

25mpg? Think I'll leave it for now, disappointing really! I could accept a 20mpg drop from changing car but a 35mpg drop I can't really afford at the moment.
Especially since I'll be doing about 800-1000 miles a week for the next 4 months.

Avoid, looks like a dog and he doesn't even know what car he owns. Also expect low-mid 20s mpg no more. Totally unsuitable for your situation IMO.

No idea on MPG in mine. But on the motorway, you should see 300-350 miles per tank.
General every day driving - 220-250.

He's talking utter nonsense and he's quoting what appears STI power output on a base turbo (unless its been modified in other ways?). Also this car would have to run on modified insurance since it has a dump valve.

40mpg is nothing but make believe if it is indeed making 275bhp. You'd be lucky for mid 20's at that power level.

It also looks absolutely terrible, what has happened to the bodywork? Sheesh!

Averaging 26-28 (best is 28.4) mixed driving with a high motorway content. UK Turbo 2000 unmodified. 28.4 was with the lightest foot!

I have managed 30.8 on a strict 3000 rev cruise that was motorway nigh on door to door - it was very boring!
