Hi everyone,I am having a bit of a problem with my 15 week old Akita pup,he is on four meals per day the problem being he gulps his food down at such an alarming rate he has nearly choked twice now the last time thankfully I was close by and had to lift him off the floor and give him a slap on his tummy to dislodge the food (pretty scary)any suggestion would be very gratefully received.

Hand feed him, a small amount per handful. Take your time.

If he is on dry food mix it with water, he will be less likely to choke and it will stop him dehydrating.

If it's dry out then just throw the food across the lawn if you have one. Our dog had the same problem and that was an easy solution. We hand feed her a bit, throw a bit for her to catch and chuck the rest across the lawn. She loves it and I like the sense that she's having to work and think for it, especially when some kibble falls into odd places.

If not, a bit of water in the bowl does slow them down too.
