Help with an Adopted cat
Discussion
Background to story. We had 4 cats, 1 male three female. All get on reasonably well. In December the Male cat passed away, leaving his sister, his house mate of 12 years and my Girlfriends cat which he had known for 9 months. all cats around 12 years old.
Since he passed the girls have not settled and are constantly arguing to decide dominance. Non of them getting on. So three months ago we decided to adapt a mature male cat. We adapted an 8 year old male rescue cat. A big fella. He is very timid of humans especially males.
Of the three girls, one dislikes him intensely and hisses & growls constantly. An other (the sister of dead cat) doesn't get on with him and hisses at him and she gets chased all around the house. The other 50% of the time nose bumps 50% growls and swipes at him.
Now the main problem is that This cat is scent marking everywhere. He scent marks walls, it gets cleaned and he scent marks again. Nothing is safe. He goes outside and scent marks the garden. But he is constant scent marking the house.
This is driving us nuts. Everything reeks at the moment. Really at wits end of what we can do. We have tried lots of fellaway and pet relief, non make a difference.
Any ideas?

You took a huge gamble taking on a mature male cat with 3 mature females. They have all now been put in a very stressful situation and are struggling to cope, the male is trying to relieve his stress by spraying.
You may have to admit defeat and consider rehoming him.
First of all have a look at the Feline Advisory Bureau website for some help. Look up Francesca Riccomini. She is very knowledgeable on multicat household stresses.
