Righto, can anyone help with some recommendations for the next Family car. I can't seem to see past a Landrover, but they're pretty damn expensive for the age and milage. Am hoping someone can provide a good alternative.

Currently have a current generation Civic, and it's brilliant for our current life, but we have another baby on the way and the car has suddenly shrunk overnight.

Requirements:

Must be able to fit 2 adults, 2 young children, dog (pointer) and a pram/shopping

Currently I'm thinking a higher mileage (70-80k) 55 or 06 plate Disco3 or a newer lower mileage Freelander 2. Both can have a boot divider fitted with one side large enough to fit the dog and the other side fit the pram.

Budget is £12k

Auto&Diesel

Thanks in advance!

Mondeo/Glaxay/S-max 2.0 titanium

Volvo V70 D5 (or XC70 if you want 4WD)

Saab 9-5.....BMW 5 series, Merc E-class

Almost any large estate will be available within your set budget with the only variables being age and price.

Thinking outside of the box - Mercedes R-Class?

Can't help if you're looking for alternatives. I've 2 kids (1 & 4) and a dog to cart around and our disco 3 does the job without fuss. Personally I find it really comfortable and there's plenty of room for the 5 of us in it.

My fathers Freelander has less space inside than my Octavia. Unless you really need the height/AWD I'd be looking at Passat/V70/Mondeo etc estates, or go the dreaded MPV route. Watch out with the Mondeo though, I'm not sure what year it was thye started doing ISOFIX but they very late getting on that bandwagon.

Another vote for the Legacy. Reliable, a little different in that it has 4x4, pillarless doors etc and you don't see that many on the road. My one has been very reliable. Even if it does run on the devils juice evil

Accord estate. I can't imagine going from a Civic to an old Disco wobble

Will take a look at the legacy.. With the Accord, you wouldn't believe how small the boot is, it's actually got less room than the civic!

Unholiest I unholies, anyone have experience with a Nissan Pathfinder... Ran a Navara in the middle east doing seriously heavy duty work and was impressed.
