Anyone use Brickset? The site stays are impressive, some 107k users owning around $255million worth of sets and some 2.5billion bricks
I put my sets into Brickset recently. Over the weekend I happened to display them by number of bricks. Rather surprised how few bricks the 80s car chassis, 8860, has compared to modern stuff. And how many my mini-modulars has. Oakey said:

Its an excellent site. After signing in you can look up your sets, tick a box to indicate that you own it and create your collection online to get track it easier. You can also make custom lists like 'Used to Own' which I find handy. If you go to your collection page you get a total number of pieces you own, apparently I have 65316 !!! I makes it easy to share info on your sets with others using a link like this -http://brickset.com/sets/ownedby-hardwax
I think the school holidays cause Lego deals to appear - biggest discount I've seen on a Lego set is this, City Museum Break-In, £19.99 at Argos reduced from £49.99: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3...
In fact, I bought it earlier this year from Amazon at £29.99 though I haven't yet opened the box. I wish I'd waited a month or two!

Screw it, let's do this!
I'm still waiting on 10 more parts but let's see how far I can get before I need one of them.
I'll be using LDD files for the build and I know from personal experience after building Slybynight's Concorde and SR71 that it can produce some pretty bizarre building instructions. With the AT-AT being a far bigger an complex model, I'm not expecting an easy ride.
I'll be starting with the feet (subject to missing parts)
Yes, LDD does indeed, sometimes, work in mysterious ways!! There is always the more "professional" alternative of LDRAW and its entourage of associated programs for rendering, instruction generating etc - I looked at it, but it was such a steep learning curve, it started to take the fun away. It's hard work enough designing anything in Lego, let alone on a computer, let alone learning LDRAW as you go along! Anyone proficient here?I'm still waiting on 10 more parts but let's see how far I can get before I need one of them.

I'm on step 386 out of 431 and still nothing is looking like a body yet.
There has also been a fair amount of colour variation. I know i've ordered everything on the parts list, purely because I spent about 3 weeks counting everything and checking it off the spreadsheet, so i'm reasonably confident I've got everything. Where i've substituted a colour with another, I just hope that where more than one choice was available I've chosen the right one and it won't be needed later.

Looks awesome BK, although looking at the instructions you've screen-shotted, the build process seems really odd and a bit of a ball-ache. I know that when it's done though, it's going to be so impressive! There has also been a fair amount of colour variation. Yeah, it has been a bit of a ball-ache. On screen all the parts float in their final positions, but in reality Lego doesn't levitate so i just have to leave them to one side. I'm betting they'll all come together in the final step and i'll have a hell of a job figuring out how and where they all fit together. But I am really looking forward to the finished article.

Lol, this is anything but easy. I'm having to dismantle most of the structure to insert the random pieces built in the earlier stages.
I was teasing of course, but isn't it mostly the addition of the lift arms for bracing? I can't see how the large constructions attach underneath, mind you...Ahhh - was it like the tail of the Concorde where you build the same part in two sections (with bits hanging in the air) and then magically meld them together in one step !!!!!
The way round this (at ldd stage) is to just build the model in subsections and leave them floating in mid air - obviously this only works if it is stupidly obvious and easy to place the subsections together at the last minute. This is why my SR-71 appears to be in 5 pieces in the final LDD.

Essentially yes, but they don't just just clip into place without having to remove a bunch of parts first. As an example see the red lift arms below, to remove the long technic bricks to be able to insert them, I had to remove part of the roof, the entire back wall and part of the floor. That has been the worst so far (I still have more to do) but very few parts are going on without have to remove something first. It's very frustrating.Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
