Pretty much finished my Star Wars themed one. Would like a row or two of stormtroopers to go with the rest of the cast.

I find this thread quite interesting. When I was younger I would build the kit from the instructions, then have it built up on the shelf for a week or two, before the bits were jumbled in with the rest of my lego in a big box. I'd get much more enjoyment out of designing and building my own models (normally trucks and tanks smile ). On ehre people tend to build the model once and display it like an ornament. So the kit becomes more like a 3d puzzle. The thing I like about lego is that it can be anything you want, not just what the instructions say.

Not saying either way is right or wrong, just find it interesting the different attitudes towards it smile
That's why its so successful... it's different things to different people. Building a kit is relaxing, almost theraputic, following simple instructions towards a goal. I'd liken it to knitting, or jigsaw puzzles. The second type of play - free play is just building something from your imagination, it's expressive and this is what kids get from it. I suspect that many are like I was and can get a better representation of what is in their minds eye using lego that they could ever get with pen and paper. then you've got the third kind of play which is working towards a model of a real world object without any instructions. The problem solving required here is immense and could be likened to a crossword or a brain teaser.

Whatever route you take, you end up with something aesthetically pleasing and perhaps functional.

personally I design and create kits that lego don't make, buying, sorting and boxing the bits with instructions... kind of a type 3 working for type 1s! and that brings new challenges all of its own!

Whats the best way to clean the Lego, my son has tons of Star Wars Lego and loves playing with it, breaking it down rebuilding, but the dust is taking the shine off? Tia

Sink full of water, dash of washing up liquid, tip Lego in, agitate until clean? Drying it all may be a problem, oven on very low and on a tray perhaps?

And decided to build this, which I bought 2 of last year, for about £45 each:

Picked up the Parisian Restaurant this weekend, as I’m not going to risk ignoring it, forgetting it gets discontinued then paying double the price on eBay. I’ve got the Cinema and the Pet Shop is still to be built. The Detective Agency can wait, and I’m always hunting a cheaper fire station/town hall modular building.

First set I’ve bought in 4 or so months!

I do a lot of Lego washing! Here's my method....
Washing: Get a big tub with a sealable lid, preferably transparent. - i'm sure tupperware do something suitable. Fill with warm water, coupla sqirts fairy liquid, and a dab of something that makes your whites whiter (for white lego)... and the lego of course! Give it a really good shake about and leave on a windowsill (UV bleaching for white lego), shake it about everytime you walk by. Next day grab a toothbrush and a bucket. Transfer piece by piece scrubbing as required. Rinse contents of bucket thouroughly. I tip it back into container and use lid as a valve/filter to drain into a plugged sink for saftey. Rinse about 3 times.
Drying: I really wouldnt use an oven!! Grab biggest towel you can find. lay it out on the floor. Distribute rinsed lego all over it. Roll it up with lego like a big swiss roll. Massage! unroll, grab by corners into bundle. Sit on floor with hairdryer aerating the whole lot in handfulls. Water collects in the underside, esp of plate. Blast air (blow) into underside of bricks an just whack/flick plate onto your trousered leg to remove water from all the little holes.

Yes it takes ages - just do it in front of TV! its quite theraputic actually.

this is what www.letsgoplay.co.uk do

How are LEGO® Sets cleaned and sanitised?

Upon their return every LEGO® set is cleaned and sanitised via commercial high temperature washers using an Eco friendly solution. Following the cleaning process they are then dried, checked again to ensure all the pieces are there and packaged ready for dispatch. This process is proven to remove 99% of all residual germs and bacteria ensuring all sets are clean and ready for use by the next member.

Can anyone direct me to a readable list of parts required to create the MOC McLaren F1 car? I have found the link to buy the instructions (£15).

I am currently sorting through my old lego sets that have been chucked into 1 massive box - must be 20kg worth! I want to get all the parts together before committing to buy. Can anyone help?

I'd be surprised if the instructions didn't come with a parts list. At a guess after you've sorted your 20Kg, you'll have about 5% of them! Then its off to Bricklink!

Realistically I think this will probably be the case, but optimistically I'm hoping that much of the list is ticked.

I thought this also regarding the parts list, but wanted to make sure I could source them all before committing. Maybe it's just me being stingy and I should put my hand in my pocket.
