I think it's just that nibali is a class above them. And Froome and Bertie are a class above him but they're not there.

Yep, Tourmalet and Hautacam on Thursday.

I'm still enjoying the racing despite the lack of Contador and Froome. Nibali is the obvious class of the race now, but the rest of the racing is good. Great to see the French resurgence and the younger riders attacking the established old guard.

I think Nibali was playing a bit of "dope a rope" earlier in the season but whether Froome ,Nibali or Contador is the best would be only very small percentages and probably down to had the strongest team around them!

Agreed. Tourmalet / Hautacam should be excellent. But especially after today, only one winner.

I agree that between the top guys it's not much. I don't think nibbler is on their level though.

Forgot about Thursday, I think it was because they kept referring to yesterday as the "queen" stage and I was thinking really?, that's it?!.... In recent years Izoard have been little more than warm up climbs!

Over the course of the stage they went from saying "some people are saying this should be the queen stage" to "let's call it the queen stage of the Alps" to "it's the queen stage."

It wasn't the queen stage.

Simon Yates drops out of tour. Damn shame as I really wanted him to finish, he's still young though so plenty of time to bounce back. I was impressed with him in the tour and he showed some really promising signs smile

I guess that 5 day call up was pushing it a little.

It was likely told to him before he even started that it wouldn't be the full thing, it was not that long ago that the longest stuff he was doing was UK prem's etc probably. Which are usually one day events!

It was definitely being reported as "the team have withdrawn Yates" rather than "Yates has decided to withdraw". He's been pretty impressive for his first tour - not afraid to get in the break, sounding disappointed not to stay with the front riders or challenge to win a stage. All good.

21 year old neo pro, riding the Tour, lasting 2 weeks & getting in 2 breaks and showing huge potential – OGE is the right team for both of the Yates twins – getting opportunities and being looked after.
I thought his attitude on Saturday in his interview spoke volumes; these boys will hopefully have a huge future. Mightily impressive, the pair of them in their first season as pros – and it hasn’t ended yet. Will Adam get a go in la Vuelta??

Yes, my post was slightly ambiguous! He didn't drop out but the team withdrew him..

I am sure he was quoted as saying he's "knackered" so a sensible decision really.

The ITV commentary team has mentioned several times over the last 10 days or so that OGE were not going to have Yates ride all the way to Paris, so it was very much planned from the outset.

Would someone please explain why the TdF cannot sort themselves out and not rely on the England cricket to give me something to watch in the background today?

Anybody could have predicted what this pathetic (as it stands) England team would do today so move the rest day to a day when there is a chance of a whole day's cricket - maybe day two? smile

I was in the DIY shop near my office the other day. Nearly bought some Quickstep flooring.
