Oh well car in for its annual service and MOT, get the expected call from service dept " rear brake pads are70%worn and replacing" funny how they are ALWAYS 70% worn, "we can replace them today...£500" no thanks i will do them myself,I did the front pads and discs in about 30 mins per side, should be able to save a few quid here. Once home, i get online Eurocarparts have OEM Pagid Pads for £182, so AM are charging about £300 to fit, applied the latest saving code HOT30 and got pads for £128!!!!!!!!. How can AM charge so much for fitting when, with the wheels already off, its a10 minute job to replace the pads.

:rof:rofl..... Because they use a highly trained technician to fit the pads....

My local AD service manager was quite surprised when I told him his prices were a joke and I wouldn't be going there for service...hehe

AM aren't actually charging £300 for the fitting. You forget that, according to AM, the pads themselves cost about £300 for a pair.

Therefore £100 to fit per side. I'm guessing that their hourly rate must be at least £150 so 40 minutes per side? Yep, I can see it taking them that long... (Remember that the job that they will charge you for will include jacking the car up, removing wheels etc etc)

Oh, just for the record: I'm in no way justifying that their prices are fair. They are absolutely ridiculous.

But surely if carrying out a £800 service, at some point they will have the wheels off already, so, to drift the pins out, remove pads, refit sensors...10 mins max, so Aston charge £300 for the parts, if I can get them for £128, then AM must get them cheaper, now 30% mark up in these days is great if you can get it, so that means a fair price for the parts would be about £170, so where do they get £300 for the pads....it ain't right

I would estimate that those pagid pads cost £25 quid to produce....AM will pay around £50 a set....

It's a bit of metal, with some composite material glued to it.... And it's a volume product, as the same pads are used on other Brembo equipped cars..

Even including videoing it, it took me just over an hour to fit a set to the front of my car, and I'm a frickin cripplehehehehe

Exactly my point, i reckon it will take me an hour at most, on a sloping drive, on a Friday after a bd week at work whilst drinking Stella Artois ( reassuringly expensive Lager) (Irony intended) and i'm a frickin retard!

When mine was in Bridge Mill a couple of weeks ago they said to me "Your front pads are a bit a low, but for the miles you do a year it should be fine to leave them for another year".

And I've had the same thing from Christopher Neil when I had my Esprits and Noble, they would say exactly the same thing, i.e. "they are getting a bit worn, but you'll be fine until the next service."

I do get the impression that many AM service departments are happy to do work that does not need doing.

Nah, I've had the car for 4 years now, always had it serviced by AM , works service, independants, or AM franchise, I've had enough of having the piss taken, love the car still, that is all.

Some good info on this thread, I have the europarts iPhone app which works well. Out of interest how do you find the latest promo code to apply?, it changes I've noticed. Are there multiple codes at any one time, this one applies to brakes but not a clutch for instance? cheers,

i dont think the mark up is that different from many others and is in line with running a large organisation like they are forced to do with showrooms dictated by aston and a myriad of H&S stuff to contend with in their workshops adding to the expense.
they make very little from the sale of a new car and then aston force them to maintain it under the warranty for very little by setting the service level cost and supplying the parts, as do all the other makers.
they need to make a profit to survive and if you look at their accounts not many of them are doing fantastic today when all the bills are added up.
the dealer often gets blamed and they arent aston.

I don't think AM dealers are any different to other premium brand car dealers. The labour rates at some mainstream places in cities are similar, and parts with similar margins

whichever brand you drive you make the choice to pay dealer rates or shop around

thankfully we have quite a few excellent specialists to rely on
