Track Day Tool Arrangements?
Discussion
Just wondering what people do with regards to tool security when you drive you track car to/from track?
Obviously you don't want a trolley jack and toolbox rattling around in your boot or whatever when you're doing your laps. So how do you ensure your stuff doesn't get swiped? I was thinking perhaps a lockable tool box and chaining that and your jack to something during sessions but...any better ideas?

It's extremely rare that anything goes missing as everyone is in the same boat, make friends with the cars either side of you and you can keep an eye on each others stuff when one of you is out on track. It's much more likely that people forget to load everything up gain and stuff behind at the end of the day than have it nicked.
I can't even recall the last time someone reported a theft but leaving things behind happens about once a month (in some cases entire cars !)

I think it is one of those where we all seem quite relax until something goes missing.
I am guilty of that too. The problem i think would not be from other track drivers but more from opportunists who are not even tracking that day. If you don't want to afford what can be stolen lock it away. Especially during breack time ( Lunch time )

I've done approaching (mumble) 100 sprints/hillclimbs and 20 or so track days and I've never directly heard of anyone losing anything to theft. I've heard rumours of thefts from the paddock at Cadwell Park and of course there was some pillock who stole a race car from Silverstone and set off up the M1. I now take the keys out of my Chimaera when I'm away from it in the paddock and I don't leave tools, etc., on show. I have left things behind at events, though.

Interesting comments re Cadwell. Many other tracks have pit garages. Never had a problem mysel in four visits to Cadwell, but i can see it is exposedf. First time there I saw a old hand had a little tent into which he put all his stuff so that it was out if sight. I generally try to spot someone in a father/son combo with trailer, 4x4 and track car, make friends, admire ther car, then casually ask if I can park my stuff with theirs. Especially my road wheels. Nothing else is valuable, but my wheels and tyres are £500 plus, so if poss I drive to the circuit on my track tyres. If possible I go with a gang of other drivers and park my stuff with theirs. But none of us have ever had anything stolen. I think it's like cars crashing into each other - a worry, but rarely happens.
Perhaps invest in a tool box you can strap down in the boot of your track car for the expensive stuff (impact driver, spanners, etc), and park a cheap 2 tonne jack and your spare fuel near to someone else's stuff.

Like others have said other drivers are very unlikely to be the cause of thefts but I think any thefts could be attributed to spectators especially at some trackdays which are billed as themed days and attract a lot of spectators.
On the quieter private track days I have seen someone use their spare 4 wheels with a chain and padlock through it to secure their tools etc.. I thought that was a good idea.

seems I don't need to worry too much.
