FWIW, on tyre testing round Jerez the MPSC2 was 2.4 seconds a lap faster than the MPSC+. Thats for a circa 2.10s lap.
One must always be careful drawing too much across from things like this to extrapolate new lap times elsewhere, but its a fairly safe generalisation to say that all the tech that is being added to todays cars is primarily just enabling them to lug their increasing weight around without facing penalties. And of course opening up the envelope to more users.
The improvements in tyre technology are driving much of the lap time reductions being seen.
This is not quite the picture manufacturers would have one believe.
The Jack Olsen video pretty starkly puts this into perspective.
If a few things work out (fingers crossed) I might be able to do something of this comparison at say Silverstone. A vbox trace should be able to strip out the time lost through manual gear changes I think as I'd be really interested to see what a pro driver (without flat shifting to wreck the gearbox preferably ) could do on both cars with the same tyres....One must always be careful drawing too much across from things like this to extrapolate new lap times elsewhere, but its a fairly safe generalisation to say that all the tech that is being added to todays cars is primarily just enabling them to lug their increasing weight around without facing penalties. The road testers will say the RS is a game-changer, it will be unrivalled in the market, it will be a super-fast-out-of-this-world experience and will 'move the game on' etc etc
Chris Harris will do some slidey arse-out video, declare it as 'a whole new thing' and the world will hail the new KING GT3!
People who own one will be able to make £60-£80k profit almost immediately and for THAT reason they will say its the 'best' car out there even though the majority of them can't heel-and-toe for st!
"Ooh it changes gear so fast"
"Ooh the sound it makes when you flick the paddle to downshift is delicious.... why does it do that sound anyway?..... never mind I feel like an F1 driver, this car is AWESOME!"
"Ooh look at me lap times youth, ah done reet good on track me, who's ya daddy!"
Blah Blah Blah
For me its all a bit.....meh!

I was so hoping it would be a road-going Cup. Strangely enough the Cayman GT4 seems more desirable to me.
However, anyone who can form an opinion on the car based on a list of stats but doesn't take into account the likely improvements with lower c.o.g., wider track fully adjustable suspension, the increase in torque, the closer ratios and the weight saving even with the heavier body and extra downforce generating aero is jumping the gun a touch. Let's wait and see - I'll bet it is a whole new thing, paddles notwithstanding

I would prefer it was a manual and that's what I would order. I'm mega at heel and toe...

My comments were tongue in cheek However, anyone who can form an opinion on the car based on a list of stats but don't take into account the likely improvements with lower c.o.g., wider track fully adjustable suspension, the increase in torque, the closer ratios and the weight saving even with the heavier body and extra downforce generating aero is jumping the gun a touch. I'm just frustrated with Porsche at the moment that's all, I was expecting more from the new RS.....but if you ask me right now I couldn't say what.
Manual would have been nice for a start but I understand the world has moved on.

Treated myself to a 2010 GT3 RS again today from those lovely boys and girls at JZM, plan to spend £30k tricking it up for the track with KW / RSS suspension, cup diff, sequential shifter, cup steering wheel, alcon CCX brakes and a set of BBS rims with slicks. Spec like my Manthey M600 GT2 that has just completed the same treatment. Can't wait to put them up against each other! To top my day off I can now sit down and decide what goodies I will have on my 991GT3RS as have a confirmed sneaky little spot for one of those also! Can my day be any better?
Can you post a pic of your GT2 pls? IMIA said:

Halfords rear wing supports, tacky stickers, cheap front wheel arch extensions for starters as I remember, all things I really like about that car now together with plenty of others I think.
Whow - don't dis the stickers - I love the sticky things - have to say , I'm a little dissapointed the 991 looks so grown up ! Saying that though , I'm sure is the standard GT3 is anything to go by this will be one hell of a machine - looking forward to the reviews. Deposit placed , order not confirmed , but at least I'm in the game - all I have to do now is cross my fingers & wait ...........
How many others have managed to :
1. Get a car confirmed .
2. Had a deposit taken (but been told maybe / maybe not ?)
3. Tried and failed to deposit
4. Didn't like , so changed their mind & didn't bother
Cheers - good luck to one and all
