Having only bought a new Porsche once (Cayman R from a deal 250 miles away), are my chances of being able to order one of these stacked at zero %, the same as it was for the Cayman GT4? I know this subject is taboo, but is it expected that the RS will retain its value, if not go up? I have no issue spending £130k+, but don't have the disposable income to accept a £50k drop over 3 years!!!

Correct - zero chance, in the UK at least.Order books are numerous times oversubscribed.
I have no idea whatsoever on the investment question in the long run. I expect that it all depends if there is a massively improved gen.2 such as the difference between the 997.1 and .2, where the latter car has a higher relative value than the older one. I do not regard the car as an investment but as an enjoyment and I intend to drive the wheels off it. I expect I will just hang onto it as I did have with my 7.1RS, knowing that in a few years time all of the 911s will be turbos and likely the run-of-the-mill cars will outperform it. It will not make it any less special for me.
If you look at some cars I really covet ,such as a series 1 E Type, their performance relative to modern cars is modest, but it does not make them less desirable. I enjoy the fun of driving my eight year old 7.1RS still, knowing that it is well eclipsed by current cars.

Isn't that what was said about the 991 GT3 and final numbers in the UK ended up being almost three times the figure being quoted at the time. Don't think many that really wanted one actually missed out. Choice of about 50 in the UK to buy now, albeit over list. Order books are numerous times oversubscribed.

I didn't think main dealer cars were allowed to be priced over list, or is that not the case any more?Sandy59 said:
Is this the first RS to be sold without any additional decals on the bodywork ??
I'm not sure it actually needs any to be honest, but I'd have thought an option at least might have been made available, anyone have any info ??
Agree I love the decals on the old ones - naff - so wrong , but at the same time soooo right !! I think the design on the 991 is already overly fussy with the rear air intakes fighting with the ones over the front wheels - that combined with excessive (visually) aero makes it look a little halfords IMHO - decals would only add to this ?? I haven't seen one in real life and I'm sure when I do I will change my mind - but I don't think it looks as good as the 997.2 - however I do think it looks "fit for purpose" and very serious indeed !!! Autocar have stated that the RS will become a mainstream model whereas the GT3 is a limited run model only. I suppose therefore it would be fair to say when the all the ballyhoo of the RS dies down the GT3 like the 4litre 997RS will not only hold its value but continue to rise due to its scarcity. Also having read all the current write ups the GT3 is just that bit more manageable unless of course you are a driving God! Of course Autocar could have got it all wrong. People who are unloading their GT3's just might be doing so for all the wrong reasons. There will of course be a new GT3 though I must assume that will be when the 991 series comes to an end. Circa 2017 - 18, I would guess.

I'm sure we'll see some decal offerings from the States in due course if not from Porsche, I guess the roof & bonnet would be a natural choice for a stripe of some kind.

Seems unlikely IMO.If that was the case then I think that, if anything, this will reduce demand for the base GT3, as people will be able to get an RS for a 'relatively' small extra payment, which will be perceived as 'better' even if it is not necessarily such a good allrounder.
Conversely, with limited RS allocation (and likely massive premiums being paid), people are happy to pay lower premiums to purchase the base GT3 ("next best thing") which will support base GT3 prices.

Thing is though all the RS's are sold . As in for the seeable future.
