Ford - no longer a UK vehicle maker?

Is this true as I understand Transit making at Southampton ceased last month.

For how long were they a UK vehicle manufacturer?

(I know that engines and transmissions continue to be made here)

Eh? Ford is AMERICAN. They just happened to have manufacturing plants and a UK/Euro division. But Ford has never been a UK car maker. Not unless you also think Honda and Toyota are too as they also have manufacturing plants located in the UK.

I don't think the OP was suggesting that Ford was a British company.

Looks like they're only manufacturing engines and transmissions in the UK according to Wikipedia.
