Hilux Surf alternative?

So im after a truck, I wanted a 90's Hilux Surf but apparently the mpg is god awful.

I do around 350-400 miles a week going to work and back so would like something that can achieve 40+MPG.

No real requirements bar that, obviously the usual reliability etc etc but essentially after something similar to the Hilux surf that does better mpg?

Any suggestions? Cheers.

None of the proper 4x4's that size will do 40mpg!!

Next best thing that will get near those figures would be a Hyundai SantaFe CRD or similar, at least they can tow & have a decent 4x4 system.

I think you'll struggle to get any half decent (not a Fiat Panda cheating thing) do over 40 mpg, or get near tbh.

How about a Hilux Surf with LPG? Fuel is half the price, so it's almost like getting double the mpg.
