Looking for a good value CSL, do they exist, especially if you don't have £20K

I don't think you have a hope at £15k. They will break for parts for more than that.

The cheapest i've seen in a while:

I suppose the question is, if someone needs to sell one, and no one else is buying whats the chepest they have ever sold for ?

Had not thought about the part out option, good point.

cheers

E46 M3s also break in parts for more than £5k.

Doesn't stop them selling for less than that.

No reason why couldn't happen to CSL

There were some over 100k mileage with about £20k asking prices.

Personally I think some of the CSL prices being "asked" are getting silly now.

The issue for me is, I sold my last E46 M3 for 8K, and looking at current prices the CSL's are priced at 2.5 times the Standard car, and unless you have deep pockets, its difficult to justify paying that much more even though I know they are cool as hell.

I don't have particularly deep pockets, but it was very much worth it for me. No problem justifying it as it's a very different prospect to the standard car, and there were only a relatively small amount of them made. It has a very special feel to it, and whereas some people just think 3-series, for me and many others it's more than that

Would you say a 964 RS is worth 4 times that of a 964 C2, or a 360CS over a std 360, etc? Many won't when viewed with cold hard stats on paper, but that doesn't tell the full story. Same with CSLs IMO

I personally can't see them ever selling for less than the breaking value, as there has to be an additional value to the complete car above what you could sell the seats, door cards, airbox, etc for. The remaining cars are limited in number and they're not making any more of them. FWIW, I don't believe you'll get one for £15k, but you might be lucky at £18k with a Cat D/high-miler

To put some presepctive on your £15K budget OP, there was a 100K plus CSL being offered in the trade at £18K.

How much does a CSL break for these days ?

And anyone seen how much BMW Hexagon of Highgate have started selling M3 CSLs for ? They have jumped 10k in months. Would live a CSL but they just seem to be getting more and more expensive frown

That's what I was trying to ascertain, as in what could you get one for, so 18K for example is much better than 25K, when you don't have the extra 7K ;0)

Just to clarify, that was offered in the trade, as in one trader to another. The retail price of that car won't obviously be £18K.

I think the generally held breaking value is around £14-15k unless anyone has any up to date info to the contrary. Strong enough demand for parts in the US too

I am sure one sold last year with pretty high miles for around the 16K mark. The problem for the OP is that they are probably past their depreciation curve and sometimes appear to be appreciating. I'd dread to think what would need doing to a car sold for 15K. My last service was about 4K and had a similar amount done under warranty. Good luck hunting though, you might be lucky.

The cS would be a good option, but not found a colur cobo for sale I liked. Wanted Grey SMG with Black Trim, and keep seeing Blue and grey trimed manuals.

The issue is I really wnat a CSL, just cant afford one at the moment. Plus got to think how practical a car with Fixed Seats and the noisy stiff ride may be as a daily drive. Although going to work may be more fun ;0)

I got ride of my Z4M as it just was too stiff for everyday driving, and I love M cars, but it really was, my wife ended up hating it.

The CSL does have a firm ride & is a compromise as a daily for sure, but that itch won't go away until you've scratched it...

I'd be amazed if anyone uses a CSL for commuting now. A task/tool mismatch on many levels.

Scratch the itch.....agreed that's what worries me !

Re commuting, it's not a choice, can't afford one toy, and a separate car for commuting , so over the years if had to bite the bullet and use my "nice" car for runs too work, no other choice really, other than occasionally stealing the wifes 307.

But who wants to end up having 307 d as thier everyday drive.

Cheers

I think that's a false economy. Overall it will be cheaper to buy a cheap diesel daily $hitter second car than run a CSL every day all year round. But up to you.
