It's just as easy to avoid the seedy bits as it is to find them. I saw plenty of kids walking with families late at nights. The casino parts of the hotel are segregated and no "minors" are allowed on the casino floor. From what I saw, it was strictly enforced.

I'd have no issues with taking children there at all. There's loads of family friendly entertainment in each individual hotel and loads for kids to see. Based on the areas that I went to at night, it was nothing like walking the streets of Magaluf/Kavos etc.

I'm sure you'd have a more family friendly holiday in Florida than Vegas.

Some of the fancier Vegas pool areas are also adult only (and cost money) as they are run as Dayclubs with music and drinking being the order of the day rather than relaxing and swimming.

I think there might also be restrictions on kids being in bars/restaurants if you aren't eating a meal.

On the plus side, kids of 5 and 6 will probably be too young to realise what the porn slappers and "GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS!" adverts are for.

I wouldn't take kids to Vegas myself. I think they would get bored and as a parent you will not be able to take advantage of what Vegas is for. Also, you can avoid 90% of the "seedy" side of things very easily (but again thats part of the fun of Vegas so it probably should not be avoided) but, when you walk down the strip you will have "flickers" shoving advertising for hookers in your face with naked girls on the pictures.

I only last a few days in Vegas before I want to move on anyway and that was when I could drink. With a kid you will be stuck in your hotel room at night. I'd advise going to NYC (I would, I live there). If you do go to NYC you can get to Atlantic City in NJ in a couple of hours. AC is the original Vegas and is like a watered down Vegas. I must admit I am not a fan of AC but you can hire a fun massive SUV for the ride. If you come out of NYC via the Lincoln Tunnel you will be recreating the opening sequence of the Sopranos so put the music on. You can stop by 6 flags which is the US equivalent of Alton Towers as well while you are in the area.

Yes you can find things for kids to do, but you can also do that at any number of other places. Although most things are around the Strip/Downtown they aren't particularly close together which means lots of walking. As an adult this isn't too bad as you can cut through casinos, stop at a bar or stop at a slot machine and have a sit down. If you have kids you will not be able to take advantage of this, also the attractions aren't particularly cheap.
