Subaru impreza with p1 gearbox , when the car is cold it drives perfect , soon as its warmed up , and when you do slow tight turns feels like the front wheels are skipping , hopping , no noises or bangs , just changed gearbox and diff oil to hopefully cure but no luck , any ideas thanks

I thought they all did that!

I have a type R so I drive with an open diff so I don't get that, but generally speaking if you are driving an AWD car, at slow speeds if you have a 50/50 split you will feel hopping and skipping when doing tight turns.

Yours will do that if you wind the DCCD forward because it doesn't just alter the torque split, it locks up the centre diff as well.

The regular 50:50 cars are a viscous centre LSD though, different setup and usually don't do that - sometimes they can bind up when they're worn out though I think.

Like Ben above said yours is non dccd seeing as you've changed the oil as the normal culprit rubbish oil is also culprit

Four things to check

Compare it to another P1.

front to back the tyre/wheels are the same size or not bald and new.

History of gearbox !! has it been changed if so are front and back diffs now both the same. As a p1 was a uk car but a JDM model so gearbox is NOT a direct swap for a UK/euro box and differential are different. Youd need to also swap rear diff IIRC

Does it on straight steer eg. on accel right and de accel lefft? Jack up one at a time when in first gear. Check wheel has drive. Normally shows up as slipping clutch but circlip comes off drive shaft and 3wd not 4wd.

IMHO

Tony

Ps not telling you how to suck eggs but covering a few issues that can arise wink

Hi thanks for your reply , the gearboxes is on my wagon , I bought the gearbox and rear diff together 18 months ago , been fine til now , changed oil to motul gear oil as recommended by opie oils to see if it would fix the binding ,but no luck , I have the same size tyres front and back , but the rears don't have as much tread as I have just replaced the front tyres , I have spoken to the garage who confirmed the centre diff at fault , so it's off Monday to Api . Thanks again for taking the time to help
