Hi

I have booked a week away for myself and Mrs O late in October and the thread title sums it up. We are fairly open to any new ideas or interesting experiences. Mrs O has some mobility issues so we can't do yomps cross moors or too many stairs/steps etc smile

Any suggestions gratefully received yes

We are staying just east of Truro

Thanks smile

Eden project
Day trip to the Scillies
St Michaels Mount (if possible re: mobility)
Some nice towns to mooch about in, e.g. St Ives, Falmouth
Gardens e.g. Lanhydrock, Tressilick
Lands End (only to say you've been there, forget it if you have!)

Go there a fair bit as my Brother in Law lives just outside Truro. There is so much to do and see can't really list it all, but if food is your thing try:

See the gold letter box for Ben Ainslie food is good and good value too. Steep hill down so go to bottom and try to get in car park, if the weather is nice sit on the pontoon and bob up and down with the tide

In Truro itself and good cuisine (and better cocktails) spent a small fortune on the cocktails biggrin

Otherwise there is a little visited Roman Amphitheater just north of Truro but I forget it's name.
Drive the coast road from St. Just to St. Ives and when you get to St. Ives don't be tempted by the Tate - it's a bit poor.
Healeys Cider Farm might fill a morning. Or the Brewery tour in Truro itself, I'm told there are free tasters as many as you like before 5pm.

Hope you have a great time, I know you missed out on Kalkan so I hope this goes better for you.

Just got back from Cornwall last week actually..

Google for locations:

Minack Theatre has steps and stuff but isn't too bad.

Poldark Mine is quite interesting.

I found Land's End fairly good but as mentioned, if you've been before don't bother. It's also £5 to park and £10 minimum for a picture with the sign (daylight robbery!!!)

Truro is nice and has a lot of shops, etc.

Tintagel Castle is cool but is one big hill so I'd avoid. Tintagel itself is a nice little town however if you're passing and the pasty shop is awesome.

Padstow to scoff seafood.

Healey's Cyder Farm if you like cider, but we did the whole thing in around an hour (without a tour)

Thanks Mark - that's very kind of you bow

We have a place booked that is on one level (no steps) and very close to a pub smile so fingers crossed we should be fine smile

Thanks too for all the ideas thumbup ...some of the more 'off the beaten track' ideas are just the ticket as we have been down there many times so just want to maybe be inspired. smile

That's not very north of Truro. It's on the far South West tip slightly below and east of Lands End..

We have folks who live in Falmouth so we go there twice a year at least, normally out of season. Mention has been made of the Pandora Inn at Restronguet, and I agree that it's a superb location and great food and beer. In Autumn I think it better at lunch time. Get there early so you can park OK.

Restaurants in Falmouth are varied. We think the nicest all round is Indaba on the Beach at Swanpool. It's on the headland right over the beach: great seafood. Parking is no problem here as there's a public car park beside the beach 50 yards away.

A sunny morning stoll through St. Ives is a joy at this time of year too.

We went a couple of years ago and they were demonstrating the guns. The demonstrator was brilliant and insisted on going for the biggest bang he could safely get away with and those big cannon inside the walls made one hell of a bang. Check out the website as it was around that time of year and its a regular thing.

Most of the gardens are not too bad so Trelisick, Trebar, Heligan, Trengwainton and Glendurgan for starters. There's a brilliant NT house at Trerice where you can play with some of the artefacts - I recommend the armoured helmets - and Lanhyrock is interesting if a bit weird. And the best NT cafe in the world at Carnewas/Bedruthan Steps but make sure its open before you go.

The Tate at St Ives is always good one way or another. Been three times this year and had to chuckle at some of the stuff exhibited but always interesting.

Lunch at the St Enodoc Hotel in Rock; the John Betjeman church at Daymer. You could also check out the seals at Gweek - always very touching - and the birds of prey near Bodmin.

I would also recommend the Beacon at St Agnes if that's possible as the view is amazing even though the distances on the plate at the top are shown in kilometers (WTF this isn't even England, it's Cornwall). Most of the towns are worth a look - Launceston, Camelford and Wadebridge all have interesting things to see.

But apart from this there's really bugger all to do. Although if you had a spare ten minutes you could go and look at the slowest ever build single room, single storey extension in Cornwall. Started in November and the floor was poured this week and now waiting thirty days for that to harden before we go another step...........
