I'm off to Florida for a road trip in two weeks and I'm unsure if I will need a driving permit.

A quick google says that I do not need one anymore. Has anyone been to Florida recently?

Assuming you have a normal UK licence then no you don't need a permit - haven't for as long as I've been going to the US (15+ years).

I was last in Florida in July and didn't need one....

Got back 2 weeks ago, after a lovely 4 weeks out there. We did over 2,000 miles and I can assure you that you do not need a driving permit.

Have fun!

There is a previous thread on this, around January/February.

Florida has passed a State Law requiring an International Driving Permit; but I seems that it is not currently being enforced. I took one with me in February just in case, but didn't even need it for the hire car.

As above, no permit required - returned yesterday after 9 great days driving around in a mustang convertible.

As above, not needed and I've been going to Orlando for about 10 years.

I have the old paper only driving licence, and its in tatters. They don't even bat an eyelid at that smile

I went there on holiday for a couple of weeks in 1989 and got a Florida drivers licence just for a laugh, mainly because I was fed of being asked for ID in every bar.

We were staying with the cousin of a friend, so used their address on the forms.

We'd rented a Cadillac Brougham, which is what I used in the driving test. I was a bit concerned about doing the parallel parking test in an 18 foot long American tank, but when we got to that part in the test it turned out the space I had to park in was about 40 feet wide and I managed it on the first attempt.

The rest of the test consisted of driving around the block (literally) and answering a multiple choice questionnaire with questions such as "What should you do if you see a blind person crossing the street in front of you?". I remember one other candidate having an argument with one of the officers about their answer to that one rolleyes
