What's wrong with me?!

My heart goes out to you mate. I feel ill just reading that.
My ex was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer over a year ago and it has been a hellish time for the family, especially our kids but I have to give it to her, she came through all the nasty drug treatments, chemo and radio with good humour and hopefully it's behind her now. Considering the character she was before diagnosed it has heartened me that she was able to cope so well. I suppose when the chips are getting low we just push a bit harder.
They do wonders these days and you seem a very stoic young chap and I'm sure that he will take this on and smash it.
All the best fella.
Glad to hear should pulled through, let's hope I can do the same! Which hopefully won't be too long!
Goldblum - I had thought of this with work. That letter has brought it home again, as it were.
My dad got all serious saying I ought to make a will etc etc. They didn't mention death
There is absolutely no chance of you kicking the bucket because of this op, however I believe everyone over the age of 18 should make a will if for no other reason than to stop the government getting their hands on your hard-earned should um..one of life's little mishaps occur Goldblum - I had thought of this with work. As an aside, I've tried about ten times to pronounce the name of the Greek chap who wrote that letter and I'm kind of struggling.
Quite amusing if you've had a couple of glasses of vino!
As you were.
He said just to call him "Vas" (pronounced Vaz) Quite amusing if you've had a couple of glasses of vino!

Phonetically, I think it's vass-ill-i-oss a-poss-ta-lo-po-loss
Or something like that I prefer "Vas"
I think it's down to the mal-practise lawsuits these days that everything that could possibly go wrong has to be mentioned.
In the 80s I had an impacted wisdom tooth out. Had to be sawn in half in situ and it was a knee on the chest job to get the bugger out. I couldn't talk properly and dribbled constantly for 6 weeks afterwards 'cos a nerve in the jaw had been nicked.
Nothing was said before and nought after, yet when I went to see about another wisdom tooth only a few years ago, the list of what could go wrong and the percentages put me off.
I had a heart attack in '09 and the stuff they had to tell me before my Angiogram really made me think that was the end. They have to cover their arses, just look at every medical drug we are given and the lists of side effects, including 'may cause death'.

No, but I was with a consultant neurosurgeon this morning (a very good friend) who could not have been more effusive.
By coincidence I also know one of the regs at Southampton, but obviously haven't talked / discussed this with him. I can't speak for his skills, but I find it difficult to imagine a more committed individual.

Good to know! I must admit, having done a bit of reading of Mr Grundy, I can't say I've come across anything which hasn't been very good. I just hope everything goes as well as possible, and I can return to what should be normal for me! Sadly, feeling sick and/or bloated practically all the time, having a horribly dry tongue most of time, getting dizzy on lying supine etc have become the norm.
Many thanks
Ross

My latest scan is being discussed at the neurology MDT meeting tomorrow so, sadly, it'll likely be the end of the week at the earliest before I hear anything else
I would tell you to hang-in there, but you are dealing with this so incredibly rationally and with such grace it wouldn't be appropriate. Please could you 'man-down', have a bit of flap or otherwise require some council so us internet lurkers can chip in and feel a bit more useful out here? C'mon!
You're very much in my thoughts Ross, really hope to see you bork free at a barge mooring soon.
I didn't spot this thread last year, only today. I began at the beginning and will confess that my first reaction was that Ross might be worrying too much about nothing and making himself more ill. I soon discovered, however, how wrong I was.
Good luck with the continued treatment, Ross.

Thanks, although I'll admit that this waiting game is beginning to grate a little! Just want to know time scale in surgery now. Please could you 'man-down', have a bit of flap or otherwise require some council so us internet lurkers can chip in and feel a bit more useful out here? C'mon!
