Was only joking smile

Today was a good day for me. I once again walked (and ran a bit) to my local parkrun to meet an old running friend, whom I've known for approx 13 years when I first started running) and once it had finished I walked/jogged round the course with him to help tidy the course up and then ran back..... The run back was only a mile but did it without stopping, it felt easier than last time too. It was only just under 8min/mile pace again but all things considered I shouldn't moan! That run and walk totalled 3 miles and then I also did a walk to shops and back which was another 1.5 miles so I did a fair bit today.

Eyes are so much better now and genuinely believe I'm fit to drive again. I see my consultant 18th March so I'll ask him and see what he says. I've not been told I can't drive, but I have cancelled my insurance and got it insured under someone else (far cheaper).... So I'd have to get that sorted and not sure if there's any point if there's the imminent possibility I'll have to cancel again in under 3 weeks...!

No you bloody shouldn't, stop being a tart!
You are doing ridiculously well after what you've been through, keep at it!

I've run all my adult life but now at 51 years old and after 2 knee operations I would be very happy with an 8 minute pace, doubt I'll ever see that again!

Yeah, I figured that smile

I your condition reportable to the DVLA ? If not I think you can just go by your consultants view (although double check that !)

Mine was reportable and the DVLA revoked my license for 12 months ! I did manage to get it back after 9 though as my consultant said I was ok (and wrote to the DVLA) and I got my MP involved.

Well done on the running smile

Went back to hospital again yesterday to have the tracheostomy site cauterised again. That went ok and I have to go back again Thursday.

I went down to intensive care and wanted to see some of the wonderful staff who looked after me. 2 Dr's in particular stood out as absolutely amazing people and luckily I managed to catch them both!

They both remembered me by 1st name before I even mentioned who I was! Had a good chat with them. I also saw a few nurses who remembered me (2 remembered my name and even which bed I stayed in.... Yet I had literally no idea who they were hehe)

Regards driving.... Any brain tumour must be reported to the DVLA and it depends on the location as to when you can drive again, it may be the case, like you, I may have it revoked and a minimum 12 months off. That would be absurd considering my recovery.... I genuinely feel I'm OK to drive (and I wouldn't say that unless I felt that way!)..... Christ.... I'd certainly be better than 99% of the geriatrics on the road! rofl

I'll have to wait and see when I speak to my consultant on 18th March.

She's actually just getting back from holiday tomorrow and we are going be meeting up but not sure when.... I'm busy this weekend because I'm going to see my mum after her health problems! She should be discharged tomorrow but needs more tests etc, but as an outpatient.

They changed the rules just after I had my op, I think I got an automatic 12 months because "they opened the middle fossa", or something like that, but before the change it was something like "drive when fit". It took them 4 months before they told me it had been revoked though, good job I wasn't in any fit state to drive in that time.

Massively annoying as you say to see George and Mabel dithering around at 15mph half way across the white line in the middle of the road from a passenger seat ! Keep on at them as soon as the consultant says you're ok, and get your MP involved, saved me at least 5 months smile The DVLA are so bad they have a "Ministerial Complaints Department" !

Well.... Went back again today and instead of a 2min session of having it cauterised I had about 5mins+, then the Dr got a scalpel and cut the granulation tissue out.... Then spent another 5mins or more cauterising it again. He said otherwise it's all looking good and said to leave it as it is now and if it's still not good in around 10-14days then come back. You can see from the pic that there's a LOT of tissue staining even under the dressing. It's a little sore/tender too, but that'd to be expected I suppose!

This was this morning, looking much neater and dryer. Hopefully it'll be alright now!

Is the granulation tissue a bit like a scab? Only instead of sealing over the hole it is around the circle of skin that was around the tube so it never actually knits over the hole and seals it properly?

It's hard to describe and not clearly shown in the last pic I did. The excess granulation tissue was forming a lump inside the tracheostomy site which wasn't allowing it to seal properly....the rest of it around the granulation tissue has done very well. In the last picture, the granulation tissue has been cut out so not visible there. I do have a picc showing the tissue on my phone so I'll try to get that uploaded which will make it much more clear.

This picture is after the 1st cauterisation..... Initially it was a fair bit bigger than this. It's clear to see what I mean about a lump 9f excess tissue!

Went for another run this morning..... 2.3 miles but stopped twice along the way, I feel so unfit at the moment frown I've never been so unfit in my life!

Breathing was the hardest part, felt almost asthmatic, and I'm not sure whether that's because I'm so unfit or whether it's because the tongue isn't moving properly. I guess I'll find out as I get to running more.

This is by far the longest period I've ever gone with no real cardiovascular exercise so I'm hoping it's just that.

Ross, 3 months ago you where in intensive care. You could hardly put 3 words together. Your body needs time to heal and your fitness will return. You just have to be patient. If u recall this is what I said to u originally. Pace yourself and don't push yourself to hard. You have had major surgery that many a person would not have made it through my friend. What is that old saying.......mmmm.."good things come to those who wait". I am sure your fitness will return but you have to be patient.

Geoff.
