It almost concludes it, congratulations on the progress you've made, but what we really want to know is how are you getting on with that nurse? smile
Looks like it's a no go I'm afraid frown

I'm off for a mini-break with a mate this weekend (who's also a PHer).... Off to North Wales tonight and back Sunday. Fresh air and a change of scenery will do me good, I'm sure!

It's been some journey Ross, you've done amazingly well throughout this ordeal and I tip my hat to you sir!

Still on for the 28th?

Difficult to find the words mate, epic, wondrous, superb, astonishing...you get the picture smile

But unfortunately not yet run in frown

Was intent on getting her through puberty before the 28th so we could wake her up a bit but work is ruling my life at the moment and I haven't had enough spare time. If I can get a hundred miles on her this weekend then we might just make it!

Had my orthoptic appointment this morning. Good and bad really.

The good.... My vision itself has returned to 20-20 (ie on the chart with varying letter sizes I could read as I should be able to). They checked I could find a fixed pattern within a pattern, and that was also normal. They looked at my retina and inside my eye, all normal. Checked pupil dilation and what's known as smooth pursuit (the ability to follow something with the eyes whilst keeping the head still) and that was also fine.

The not so good. There is still some double vision in a small window/angle when I look to my right hand side. They won't prescribe some glasses because it's showing signs of improvement and if they continue to improve then the prescribed glasses would no longer be suitable.

Because of that, I can't drive even though it's a tiny window and I really reckon I'd be absolutely fine (I've cycled absolutely fine in day and night!). I have to have another appointment in 3 months time. If it continues to improve or has gone, I may get them to write to my surgeon and say I'm all ok. If not, I'll ha e another appointment. If the double vision is still there after 12 months, they'll prescribe lenses and I'll be able to drive.

In reality, it's looking like it will be 12 months from surgery date until I can drive.

Another good thing is that all Dr's (my surgeons, 3 eye Dr's I've seen) all think the vision will eventually return to normal. The eye Dr this morning was also amazed at the progress and said usually it takes 6 months to get any meaningful changes in vision, the fact I'm this much better this quickly is quite remarkable.

So..... A bit frustrating but I kind of had it in my head it would be 12 months anyway. It's just going to be a royal pain in the arse to get to and from work.

How do you operate a scooter if you cannot 'drive' wink

While they were waiting for my eyes to stabilise they used a stick on prism on my glasses, so if it changed they could simply swap the sticker for a stronger/weaker prism. If you don't wear glasses already I'm sure you could just get some clear ones they could put a sticker on. The DVLA were happy with that.

Gutted about the rain Ross, driving back today was even worse, we picked a bad weekend!

For those of us who've followed this thread from the start and sent Ross our best wishes I'd like to say that in person he is an absolute gentleman, a really decent young guy who has been through hell and come out the other side smiling. He still faces many challenges but his attitude and guts in the face of these difficult circumstances is truly humbling.

And in true PH style he also has a very large, shiny and unnecessarily powerful BMW that I was lucky enough to drive, great fun!

If you are ever in his area give him a shout and drop in, you'll be very glad you did.

Sorry if this is embarrassing you Ross but me and the OH had a great time meeting you yesterday and would love to come back again in the summer if you're up for it.

Thanks for the kind words mate, I also had a great time and was good to meet you both too. As you say, pity about the weather.... Definitely up for something in the summer when you're next down.

The 745i has basically half the power of your 650S and must weigh about 5-500kgs more lol. It is pretty comfy, smooth and spacious, mind!

Cheers
