Right... Been having a bit of an odd one the last 2 weeks now and don't currently agree with the gps preliminary diagnosis (and awaiting a blood test). 1 symptom is slightly personal so if you're easily disturbed read no further smile

First some history on me. 24 year old healthy male, generally very healthy diet (a good 10 of my 5 a day each day), very active (lately been cycling approx 150+ miles per week as well as some running too) my bmi I pretty much bang on 20.

So.... Bank holiday Monday I felt fine. Went to bed feeling a little queezy but not that bad. Woke up around 1:30am feeling hideously nauseous and stayed awake like that for about 4 hours until I got up, Feeling a little lightheaded and soon vomited. Went back to bed feeling a bit shaky but marginally better. 2 hours later I get up to go to work and then I'm sick again. I don't go to work and I'm sick several times that day. I didn't eat a great amount that day.

Wednesday I feel fine. A little tired but not too bad. Still feeling a little lightheaded on certain things (like returning head to normal after finishing a drink but overall ok.

This carries on until Sunday by which time I think I'm ok. I was sick again Sunday morning and noticed my stools were darker. Now I'm getting a bit worried as it didn't seem like anything I'd eaten. When I would up Sunday I felt really spaced out for 20mins or so then ok. Felt generally ok for the rest of the day.

Through last week I felt quite tired and generally a bit lightheaded (but far from a spinning room or anything like that) and go to work through the week. I had the odd mild nauseous feeling through the week and I do mean mild. Thought I was fine until I was sick again at 4am this morning and now I'm genuinely quite concerned now.

I've absolutely no abdominal pain. I have noticed I seem to be almost hiccupping without any air or anything coming up quite frequently as well but no apparent reflux. No ear symptoms such as pain, discharge etc. Ear and oral temperature is normal. Blood pressure 112/71 (seated).

Any thoughts? Awaiting a phone call back from the docs but my one not in until tomorrow. For the record, when the went to the docs Friday it was my first appointment for over 8 years.

Thanks

Complete guesswork but I think you've had a stomach bug you're struggling to throw off. What did the Gp say?

Labyrinthitis - despite I'm getting mildly lightheaded at best, no vertigo as such.

Unless the room is spinning and u are struggling to walk that doesn't sound like Labyrinthitis.

Go back and see a different GP?

You can choose the GP you see - you don't have to see 'your one'.

Explain your symptoms and misgivings and see what they suggest.

Could be that you have developed an intolerance to something you are eating? Maybe keep a diary of what you eat and see if anything correlates to the times you feel ill.

I developed an allergy to Nuts when I was 18, some cause anaphylaxis others just make me sick.

Not sure if this would cause you to feel lightheaded but it sounds like it might be a case of ruling issues out to find what the problem is.

Sick twice again this morning frown admittedly not much coming up, just fluid and gas really.

Generally feel rubbish and feel daft being at work but hey ho. My surgery do emergency appointments so I may get one tomorrow after my blood test. This is the first time I've been sick 2 days running.

I did wonder about food intolerance but haven't found anything in particular. Certainly didn't eat anything yesterday that I haven't over the past week when I felt ok.. I have always had a weak spot for sugar free fizzy drinks but haven't touched those for around 10 days now after I was sick for the 2nd time.

Taking the piss now. Really getting me down.

Thanks for the support chaps, any further thoughts/advice on etc much appreciated.

Apart from the length of time, your symptoms seem very similar to the two occasions I've had food poisoning.

I thought your symptoms sounded a bit like a middle ear infection if that's helps? It certainly ties in with the labrynthitis thing.

It does sound like labyrinthitis that my mother had. Nausea from feeling seasick the whole time. It took her a good week or so to begin to shrug it off.

Well, dark/black stools can indicate digested blood (therefore a bleed above the intestine) so keep your eye on that.

I would see the GP and make sure you mention the colour.

already mentioned it on my visit Friday, but that's stopped now - yet the vomiting hasn't. The dark stools may have been a result of taking pepto-bismol, it is a potential side effect.

Blood test tomorrow and i'm going to go for an emergency appointment in the afternoon too. Generally felt a little queezy all afternoon but not THAT bad. But having this for over 2 weeks now isn't right. I'm really not the "ill-type"

thanks again chaps, as ever, any further thoughts welcomed smile

Doesn't really fit with ME to be honest.

I was sick again approx 1:30am this morning again frown

Had some toast with jam as well as some granola for breakfast around 10am and managed to eat a decent lunch and kept it down. It's odd because it hasn't interfered with my eating....

Right now I feel absolutely fine, bar a bit down about the issue. It's getting in the way of my sports.... One of the things I truly love.

Blood tests done earlier for full blood count, serum ferritin levels and ESR.

got another appointment (in light of getting worse since Friday) tonight at 5pm.

Will keep you posted.

I'll have no more blood left soon hehe

Broad spectrum of ailments being tested for!

Do you feel as if the symptoms are gradually easing? Still sounds something stomach based to me - Peptic Ulcer?
