My gourami in my tank have become very scared and jumpy.
I've done a water test and results show ph, nitrite and ammonia as fine but nitrate is very very high.

So I have been changing 20% water every day for the last 3 days and also vacuuming the substrate thouraghly. I've also added nitrate removal media into the filter.

Tested the water again today and I'm not seeing the level decrease.
Is there anything else I can try?

Just like humans, it could be any number of things (good start with the water changes btw)

It could be:

- a bully fish (either of the same species as they can be bullies themselves, or territorial fish e.g siamese fighter)
- not enough hiding places (so will stay in a place it feels secure (think of a kid hiding under the covers)
- fast or abrupt movements disturbing the tank
- illness (have a look for whitespot)
- and if they are female, possibly would like to spawn/get laid.
- Also, as the nitirte is causing a problem, try and get some established media from your local shop if you have not prepared some. When you wash your existing media, do so under sterile (or water from the tank, but NEVER tap water, only lightly swiringling it around)
- If you have a second tank and other fish besides the Gouirami, seperate them as a precaution.

You'll have to figure out which it is, but in general these are the reasons why any fish becomes scared, hides or sticks to one spot.
